Check it off!

Just some quick advice: If you're buying something off of one of our Gift Registries, be sure to tell the nice people in the checkout area that you're buying something from our Gift Registry so they can take it off so that nobody else will try to get it for us. For example, we recently received the absolutely awesome Michael Graves Poker Set from Target. However, if you were to go to Target and look at our gift registry it would still show that we want the Michael Graves Poker Set, because whomever (nameless) bought that for us didn't tell anybody there that they were buying it for us, so they didn't take it off our registry (or mark it as "Fulfilled" as is their habit).

Be courteous to other people: check it off.

'Til You Drop!

Yesterday (Saturday) man-o-man we (Carrie & I) did a whole tonne of shopping. Lesse if I kin remember it all:

  • Cash & Carry
  • Trader Joe's
  • The entire length of the Tacoma Mall
  • Pier 1 Imports
  • Toys 'R' Us
  • Cost Plus
  • Border's Books & Music
  • Party World

And I think that was it. Maybe. I prolly forgot something.

Fools Play was just me 'n' Ed. We did our most popular format, Storybook. Although at first it didn't look as though there was to be a show because there was NOBODY in the audience five minutes before showtime. But eventually we had about a dozen people show up, I'd say. It was a good show. I drew pictures, including an excellent one of a giant skeleton rising from its grave with a tombstone that said "RIP GIANT" behind it, and frightened villagers running away. The giant skeleton showed up in Little Red Riding Hood (as did ANGRY BEEF, of course).

Afterwards we went to Red Robin. It took freakin' forever for the check to come. I wanted to leave like 15 minutes before I actually did—and I was the first one to leave.

I swung by Panamonica's on the way home to pick up Carrie and Mary (and Mary's new beau) to take them all home. Drinky McDrinkdrunks, they all were.

There's a funny thing that happens when you don't plug in your phone

Yesterday (Thursday) traffic was actually really, really good for the first time in a long time. Mike & I got to work on time and got home at a reasonable time. Carrie had had a rather stressful day doing wedding duties all during her split-shift. Unfortunately she had already left for class by the time I returned. She left me a list of things she needed me to get done while she was teaching, including going to Fred Meyer and depositing her check, running dishes and laundry, and taking the garbage to the curb (something we've forgotten to do for like the past three weeks or something crazily stupid). Once I got all of those things done I thought I should do something nice for Carrie, so I went to Stadium Thriftway and bought some chotlate tate and house cream.

Brandy & I were to hang out that evening. I was to bring over a movie for us to watch, but I got indecisive and just jammed like a dozen DVDs in a bag and took them all over. I left Carrie's tate on the coffee table with a note in case she got home before I did.

Brandy & I eventually settled on Ghost World, which is a fine, fine flick. We watched the movie and I gave her a nice backrub. I should really get some actual training on how to give massages—I have some natural talent, but I could be a kickass masseuse. Except that I only like giving massages to people I know. The thought of giving a massage to a stranger for money just seems too much like prostitution for me. I'm a weirdo, though. At any rate, it was a nice, relaxing evening.

Perhaps too relaxing? I actually ended up falling asleep towards the end of the movie. When Brandy woke me up it took me a couple seconds to recognize my surroundings.

"Was I asleep?" I asked.

"Uh-huh," she answered.

[Pause] "Was I snoring?"

She held up her thumb and pointer finger about two inches apart. "Just a little bit," she smiled.

How embarrassing.

Anyway, it was pretty late when I woke up. I thought Carrie should probably already be home, but if that were the case then why hadn't she called me? She must not have been home yet. Well, when I left Brandy's I checked my phone. Hmmm, that's funny, I thought. I don't remember turning my phone off. So I hit the power button to turn it back on and nothing happened. See, there's this funny thing that happens to your phone if for several days in a row you don't plug it in: it dies. So Carrie HAD come home and called me; I was just unable to answer due to the fact that I'm an idioto.

So I rushed home and found the tate on the coffee table had big bites out of it and Carrie was in bed playing solitaire.

Traffic Woes!

Yesterday (Tuesday I believe) traffic was horridible. Absolutely Atrociawful. Both in the morning and the evening. It was raining, but that can't be the only explanation, can it? I mean, us Washingtonians can't have gotten so spoiled by a sunny summer that we forgot how to drive in the rain. Right?

Anyway, Carrie needed me to put some money in her account, but I got home so late (after 7:00) that not only did I not get to see her before she left for class, but I wasn't able to get to Fred Meyer before their bank closed. I was so upset that the only way to console myself was to buy a new impatien for the flower bed and also to buy the original Manchurian Candidate on DVD ('twas on sale for less than $10). That made me feel a little better.

I installed Ad-aware on my home computer and let it go crazy. It actually didn't find very much stuff at all, which surprises me because I have totally left that computer open for attack. I take no precautions whatsoever. I probably shouldn't be telling you all this. Oh, well.

I got real sleepy-like and so I plopped down on the couch. It's been such a long time since I've taken a nap on that couch. Two-plus months. Carrie called to say she was coming home hungry, so I made us some chicken sammitches and heated up some creamy tomato soup for her. We were in bed before 11:00. I apparently snored a lot during the night. I didn't get very good sleep (again) at any rate.

Noteses that Floatses

Two days before yesterday (Saturday) Carrie had her Bachelorette Party. Or as I like to call it: "Hooker Night Part 2."

Sunday (Sunday) Gary & I went to Tacoma Mall so he could get fitted for his tux and I could pick up Carrie's wedding ring from Nordstrom. Practice was at my house, as it looks like it might be from here on out (which is okay 'cause it gives us a reason to clean the house every week). While I was practicing Carrie was at Lindsay's baby shower.

Yesterday (Monday) traffic was so bad that we got to work 12 minutes late, my brother and I did. We stayed 12 minutes late to make up fer it. I was driving home and I was kinda on autopilot, and my autopilot got off at the Stadium Way exit instead of the usual exit. From my point of view I was just driving along the freeway, and then all of a sudden I was driving down Stadium way. I called Carrie to tell her what I'd done, and she asked if I could just pick up dinner from the Burger Bar, away from which I was about 50 feet at the time. No problem.

I took some sweet-n-sour pork and some beef teriyaki home to her. She went to go be with Mary for most of the evening, and Gary came over for Rasslin' (it was the episode where the Rock makes ladies eat pie and Kane & Lita get married).

After Gary left it was pretty much bedtime. I didn't sleep particularly well.

TODAY IS EXACTLY FOUR (4) WEEKS UNTIL THE WEDDING

Yesterday (Thursday) I was so extremely JEALOUS of Carrie, because she got to take the kids to see Yugi-Oh The Movie!!! Damn damn damn! Why couldn't it be me? They also went swimming with Linnea and Melina.

I, on the other hand, discovered the joys of an ever-changing desktop. My work desktop is now all setup like a classic arcade. Here's a pic:

I got home like two minutes before Carrie came home with her friend Laura from California (originally SPU). We went to Panamonica's for dinner, and the place slowly filled because: It was the lovely Catherine O'Reilly's grand opening for her art hanging on the walls of Panamonica's! There were four other artists, and Carrie & I really liked the photographer who has her stuff upstairs, so we bought one (for cheap). I want to buy one of Cat's, too (the red one--you'll see). Mary and Gary also came by to share the fun, and we ran into our new best friend again. It was goodtimes.

Carrie took me home, then took Laura up to Edgewood to drop her off where she's staying, then came home and we went to bed, but both of us had trouble sleeping.

Take a look back!!

As predicted, I haven't had much time to update this here website as we are now in the one-month countdown to the wedding -slash- end of the contract job. Here are some notes about what happened to me over the last week or so.

Tuesday 8/10: I went to a baseball game with my dad and Carrie's folks. I stayed an hour later at work than usual, then just walked the two blocks to SafeCo Field. The game was fun and very fast--just barely two hours! Mariners beat the Twins 4-2. Got to see Edgar Martinez hit a homerun in his last season before retiring.

Wednesday 8/11: Took mass transit up to work. Left work early with Geoff to meet up with the girls (Carrie, Brandy, and Mary) at Woodland Park Zoo to see TMBG in concert. The opening act was a guy with an accordian (Corn-something I think) who had some Tenacious-D appeal. TMBG concert was fun but short. The zoo has no lights, so once it gets dark everything has to stop and everybody has to go or they won't be able to find their way around. We got back down to T-town in time to rush over to Panamonica's and hear Krissy singing. Holy s--t she is good.

Thursday 8/12: Carrie had class. I didn't get home in time to see her before she left, so instead I went down to the BF and saw her there ('cause I just couldn't wait). Also hung out with Leilani, Gretchen, and Brandy there.

Friday 8/13: After work I didn't go back to T-town, but stayed in Federal Way to celebrate my mom's "birthday" even though her actual birthday was several months ago. We went to a Japanese restaurant. Rachel & I were the only ones who could really use chop sticks. I had tempura and sashimi--I'd had sushi for lunch earlier in the day, even. We went back to my folks' and mum opened presents (I got her a Rachel Ray cooking book).

Saturday 8/14: I'm pretty sure Carrie did something during the day, but I can't remember if I did or not. Oh, well. Fools Play was hosted by Greg Skeller and Mr. Savvy. It was a really good episode--Taisha said it was one of the best in a long time. We did some exceptional short songs, including my rendition of "Wizard" and all three of us singing "All Great Men Are Short (Watch Porn)." Afterwards we went to the Red of Robin.

Sunday 8/15: Don't remember what happened during the day on Sunday, either. Practice was cancelled, though. Taisha came by for a bit. We walked to the food mart place to buy paper towels for Carrie, who was cleaning the kitchen.

Monday 8/16: Worked. Dinner was breaded pork chops, mashed potatoes, and green beans with bacon. went to Neighbor Gary's for rasslin'--1st episode with Randy Orton as champ. Got a whole bunch of ColecoVision games off of Gary's computer. Ate a couple pieces of giant pizza and later that night felt a little sick.

Tuesday 8/17: Worked. Had a bunch o' BF work to do in the evening; Carrie continued cleaning. She went to Mary's at one point to use her sewing machine.

Wednesday 8/19: Worked. On the way home came up with the Cinnamon Breather joke. First physical wedding gift arrived! Went to Mary's for African-style dinner. Yams are good. So is Laughing Cow cheese (an African staple). Fish sauce is not quite so good--reminded me a little of fish food flakes. After dinner we went to Panamonica's so Carrie H. could show Carrie C. around. Cat has her art up there; there's one piece that Gary and I are gonna fight over buying, it's so spectacular (the red one).

Big ol' steak!

Yesterday (Monday) Carrie had a big ol' steak waiting for me from the grill when I got home. What a woman.

She then went to Michael's (the store) and Target and Goodwill with Mary whilst I stayed home and cleaned up the living room half of the big room and watched Kiki's Deliver Service in the original Japanese. F#%king A, that's a good movie! It's hard to rank Miyazaki films, but it MIGHT be my favorite. Or tied for first with something else. Dunno.

Anyhoo, I turned off all the lights and lit all the candles in the house for prettiness. It was nice. VERY nice.

Catwalk

Last night it was really hot in the house and I couldn't get my core temperature down at all, so around 11:00 at night Carrie said, "Do you want to go for a walk?"

I sure did. It was much cooler outside. We walked up 11th (by up I mean west) to Cedar and then doubled-back to Oakes before doubling-back (tripling?) again to home. In the middle, though, I saw this dark shape dart across the street out of the corner of my eye. It was a well-fed long-haired black cat with a spiked collar but no name tag. It reminded me a lot of Baby, not just in looks, but in sheer friendliness. It wanted us to pet it. Another cat came to investigate, but after they sniffed noses this other cat left, leaving us with the black cat. After indulging it for a bit we started on our way, only to have it dart in front of us and walk in the same direction we were headed, as if it were leading us on our walk. It stayed like that for several blocks. Eventually it got distracted by rolling around on the sidewalk and we got ahead of it, and though it kind of followed us eventually we didn't see it behind us anymore. Very cute.

Boo! Damn! F@#K! This suxors.

Wash. State Team's Private Rocket Explodes. I hate it when bad things happen to people trying to dool cool space stuff. It just sets everything back, although that rocket only cost $20,000 so it shouldn't be too hard to build another one. One that works.

Three extra hours!

Yesterday (Friday) Carrie actually didn't have a class to teach, so we got to spend like three extra hours together. That brought our total up to like five or something HUGE like that!

We went to The Mandolin Cafe on 12th. Amanda Escobar is the manager there or something. Hadn't seen her in a long time. The place is supercute. We thought it was a real restaurant, but it's a total coffee shop type of place. Really inexpensive and good food. I had a chicken brie sammitch and Carrie had some sort of sausage penne pasta thang.

After that we went to Panamonica's for just a bit. But we made a new best friend. I can't remember his name, but I think it was Greg. A rather inebriated man. He drew a picture to commemorate the forging of our new friendship:

That's me on the far right and Carrie in the middle. We joked that Mary was his girlfriend.

We came home and watched Eurotrip on In-Demand cable. I must say it wasn't nearly as dumb as I thought it would be. It's got a breezy sort of fun to it. Or maybe I was just enjoying actually getting to spend time with Carrie that ANYTHING would have seemed good. And it was nice to see Michelle Trachtenberg. Althought it was weird seeing her as an object of sexual desire when I still think of her as Harriet the Spy and Nona from Pete & Pete (now there's a show that should be on DVD by now).

Anyway, a Nice Evening with a capital N-E.

Memo to Human Resources

Hey, all, you may have noticed that there are some serious gaps in this here blog lately. That's because I'm seriously busy right now. The wedding is less than six weeks away (!!) and my 9:00 to 5:00 job is really more like a 7:30 to 6:30 job. I oftentimes don't have time to make more than a few quick notes about my day. Sure, I'd like to tell funny stories about how Mary, Carrie, and I went to Ikea on Sunday, or how we decided on our DJ on Monday, or how Susan, Mom, and I went to Panamonica's on Tuesday to settle it for the rehearsal dinner spot.

I just don't have time to type much more than that right now, and I'm having real trouble getting up in the mornings and having time enough to do anything, let alone a leisurely entry in a blog. So here are the notes I've been taking:
  • Yesterday (Saturday) Carrie took the kids to a Ugi-oh tournament at the fedway ToysRUs. I cleaned the house some. Mom came over at noon. We went to panamonicas but it was closed. So we went to Rosewood instead. Missa and later Christine also came there for lunch.

Fools Play DVD happened and was mostly a success. Afterwards came straight home. Carrie had gotten drunk at Mary's w/Devon.

  • Yesterday (Friday) went to work, drove ghetto car 'cuase carrie was driving all the hell over the place. Didn't get shat upon. Fell asleep at keyboard.

Walked down to Starbucks -- mocha frappucino. Waited for Jim. I drove car to Marrymoore Park. Jim went to go get beer for like a million years. Carrie & Her mom came, I went and gave them tickets to get in.

Harry was funny. Sylvester Stallone impersonation. Light-up guitar.

Back to parents to get ghetto car.

    Home.
  • Yesterday I went up separately. A bird shat on me. I showered at Sandy & Mathias's and we went to Mr. Bills, then talked about video games.

When I got home Carrie took me out... to buy groceries at Metropolitan Market.
  • Yesteday (Wednesday). We went to Panamonica's for dinner. They were still out of chicken and now they were also out of all breads except focaccia. Carrie made a ton of jewelry. i discovered that a message board ANGRY BEEF used to frequent is back up and running.
And that's the rest... of the story.

Of the month: August '04

Hello! Well, it's the first of the month again, so I've updated my whole "Of the Month" roster on the right-hand navigation bar over there.

Here we are:

Link of the Month:

Our Wedding Registries
I'm getting married! Perhaps you've heard? Well, Carrie & I want lotsa presents! Gimme! Buy stuff from these lists and we won't return them—guaranteed!

DVD of the Month:

Batman - The Animated Series, Vol. 1
It's about freakin' time! Finally, we have the ENTIRE FIRST SEASON of Batman - TAS in one collection (four DVDs), presented in production order (which, strangely, is slightly different than the order in which they aired).

Game of the Month:

coverThe Mega Man Anniversary Collection
It's about freakin' time! Finally, we have ALL EIGHT "regular" (non-X or NT) Mega Man games on one disc, including the hard-to-find Mega Man 8. My favorite video game series of all time, all at once.
