"Let Me Guess: It's an Advent Calendar"

So I've been working on this mural for The Bead Factory. Yesterday I went in with Carrie at 7:00 am (two hours before the store opens) and went back at night and stayed until 11:30 pm. Thing is, it doesn't look like I've done hardly any work.

Kinda like how the clean-up after Thanksgiving is going at our house here. Seems no matter how much we clean or how many dishes I wash, the house doesn't look any different. Frustrating in a not-very-frustrating way. I suppose that's a complicated way to say, "not very frustrating."

I went in to the BF this morning to clean up some of the mess I left last night. Brandy was there, and she gave me a "Christmas" present. Thing is, she'd given the EXACT same present to both Carrie and Cat while I was watching, so I knew exactly what it was. Oh, didn't I mention that Cat is back at the BF? At least for a while, but it's really cool to walk in there and see her.

Carrie had a major brainstorm about me a couple of days ago. About me and my artistic talent. It's a very exciting and radical idea. More on that later. I've broken out the Mega Man Anniversary Collection again and am playing through #2 and #6 simultaneously. Things are going well in Animal Crossing as well. Limberg moved out but Camofrog moved in; the wishing well still says the town is perfect.

I helped Neighbor Gary move for a couple of hours on Sunday. He's moving out to Enumclaw. But he's still working in Fife, so it's not like he can't just pop by after work or anything. He's still our Neighbor. We had practice at Geoff's. I left a couple hours early to do that whole muraling thing.

I think that's about it. Oh! I put up Christmas lights on the outside of the house! I bought a whole 'nother 25 feet of 'em, so there are twice as many lights as last year. I'm thinking I'll buy another 25 feet (today?) and attach them to the other end. Funny thing is that like a dozen of the bulbs had burned out between last year and this year, so it's really spotty and shabby looking right now. I'll dig to see how many replacement bulbs I can find.

Okay. That's about it.

Good Times. Good Times.

The reason why I haven't yet put up any pics of Thanksgiving is because the USB port is way in the back of my computer, and I have to drag the whole giant box out and unplug the printer and then plug the camera in. In other words, I'm lazy.

But I'm not too lazy to write a new article! Bammo! It's another video game review, this time of Konami's obscure 1984 title, "Mikie"

Mikie: Headbutts and Heartbreak

Yesterday (Friday) I just could not do two things:

  1. Wake Up
  2. Warm Up
For some reason I was horribly cold and horribly tired all the live-long day yesterday. Today I had to get up before 6:00 to take Carrie to Lisa's so they two can go do Winterfest in Gig Harbor and sell their jewelry for fun and profit. Me? I'm thinking of putting up the outside Christmas lights today...

Rousing Successes!

Just in case you weren't aware, yesterday (Thursday) was Thanksgiving, and the day before that (Wednesday) was Carrie's birthday.

I have an absolute TON of work to do today, so I can't say much other than both days were rousing successes. I'll put up some photos, um, tomorrow I think. Until then, hang tough (just like the New Kids on the Block used to demand).

My Face on Their Shirts

Sorry I've been flaking on this; getting ready for Thanksgiving is HARD! We just finished cleaning (almost) the whole house—you can actually walk around in the office and not step on any wedding stuff! The new printer prints photos WAY better than the old one, so that's a really good thing.

I did a funny thing in Animal Crossing. I got that photo of myself that's on the About Me page, cropped it to a square so it was just my head, reduced it to black-&-white, then shrank it to 32x32 pixels. I then reduced the shades of BW to just 15 (including black and including white). But not just any 15... the 15 shades of BW that are available at the tailor shop in Animal Crossing! That's right, I drew an excruciatingly exact portrait of myself, then put it up on a signboard right outside Carrie's front door. Some animals have even started wearing my face on their shirts! Tee-hee!

Today (Tuesday) I bought sweet potatoes, sugar, salt, and some more rosemary, and I do belive we now have all the food we're gonna need for the big day.

Tomorrow (Wednesday) is Carrie's birthday! Everybody call and wish her a happy birthday, okay? Spread the love!

Fri

Friday evening while Carrie had to teach a class (lame), I drove up to Seattle to take part in a joint birthday party of sorts for Mr. John C. Griffin and Mr. Edward Gibbs V. We went and saw The Lost Folio, starring none other than Erik Melver.

And guess what? It was actually rather funny. Some story threads got lost or confused, and the ending was pretty much a clusterfuck, and there were too many anachronisms. But when they stuck to the Shakespeare stuff, it was bloody good.

Here's the plot:
The King & Queen of some unspecified location lived in a castle on a rock. Thier daughter (and only issue), Fifi, is unmarried at 16 because she spent all her time dreaming of going to the stars. Her father arranges a banquet of suitors. To this banquet will come Santiago, a disgraced poor man with dark political ambitions, who pretends to believe in the socially liberal policies of the King. With the help of his soldier friend, Santiago will pretend to be a lord and attend the banquet, while the soldier disguises himself as a tea merchant and learns from the King any information he can that will give Santiago an edge in this banquet competition.

Meanwhile, into town shuffles poor Cholic, a man driven from his home and each subsequent locale due to the fact that his body has an incredible static electic charge. He runs into two bumbling scientists (one of whom is Italian) who, rather than fear him, are in awe of his power. They take him in and show Cholic a vehicle they've been working on. Cholic accidentally sparks life into it, and it takes off. Learning that the reason Cholic was banished from his home was that he built up so much of a charge once that when he touched his mother she shot skyward, the scientists realize that he is the perfect match for Fifi, who wants to be sent heavenward.

The soldier disguised as a tea merchant learns that the King has an insatiable craving for a specific food. At the banquet, as a blindfolded Fifi questions her possible suitors (including Cholic, from whom the blinded Fifi senses an incredible power), Santiago (with the knowledge from the soldier), produces this food. The King immediately accepts Santiago as the winner of the banquet and dismisses the other contestants. Cholic is forced to slink away dejected. How will Cholic and Fifi ever be together now that Santiago has bamboozled the King?

Santiago lets slip some of his darker intentions to Fifi, who now has no choice but to marry him. As she runs off to cry someplace over her unlucky position, the downtrodden Cholic comes upon her. They indeed have a strong connection, though Cholic's powers prevent them from touching. The two scientists show up and take Cholic away to view their new invention: using copper jump roap a battery they drain almost all of Cholic's static electricity so that he and Fifi may be together. But she is set to marry Santiago on the wedding barge post-haste!

The scientists have a plan. They know that Santiago carries a sword and is of rash temper. They wrap Cholic's body with copper wire and steal alongside the barge in a small boat. As the marriage ceremony is about to commence, Cholic leaps from the boat onto the barge. He angers Santiago to such a degree that Santiago takes out his sword and attempts to murder Cholic on the spot. However, just as Santiago's sword touches the copper wiring around Cholic's body, Cholic touches the tip of the wire to his tongue and unleashes the final amount of electricity in his body into the wire, up through Santiago's sword, and into the villain's body, electrocuting him dead. Now completely static-free, Cholic finally may embrace Fifi without harming her.

But the scientists have one more surprise up their sleeves. As the two lovers embrace, the scientists connect a free end of the copper wire to the battery on their boat. All of Cholic's drained energy flows back into Cholic and Fifi, rocketing them skyward to be together forever in the heavens.

I sat between Geoff & Taisha, and had a good time hanging out with them there. Afterwards the whole posse hung out on the sidewalk for a while. Jack Bridges (of the Lloyd/Jeff/Beau family) was there! I hadn't seen him in for ages! I went home after that.

Carrie + Taisha + Brandy + Trevor+ Julian + Sophia + Animal Crossing + Skip-Bo = Fun!

This is very exciting news for me, but might not be for anyone else except other Bead Factory people, but yesterday I finally actually got the Wholesale/Resale section of TheBeadFactory.com up and running an online, with the password system and everything! Finally!

I spent most of the afternoon cleaning because I knew the kids were coming over later. Around 3:00 or so there was suddenly a knock at my door. I figured it was a solicitor of some sort, but I was wrong. It was Taisha! She was supposed to be at her aunt-who-lives-a-block-away's place, but that aunt wasn't there or something, so she popped by to visit. We compared childhood drawing styles and she checked her email and raved about that Ghost Hunters show. Tee-hee! I did dishes and vaccuumed and took out garbage all the while.

Carrie's class was cancelled, so after work she came home and cleaned for a bit, and then we went over to Red Robin to join Brandy and the kids there! Seems like we've seen the kids every Thursday for the past month, practically. Afterwards, Brandy brought them by the house so the boys could play Animal Crossing, while she, Carrie, and Sophia went to the Mandolin Cafe and played Skip-Bo. It was nice to see Brandy outside of The Bead Factory (even though I can't really consider this "hanging out" since we were taking care of kids).

After they left I worked some on my Christmas list. It has something like 85 items on it. Tee-hee! We went to bed around 10:00, which means we played Animal Crossing in the bedroom for a while. Carrie had mucho trouble actually falling asleep. Usually when I play Animal Crossing she passes right out, but this time it was the other way around. Weird, huh?

Nous Avons Ete Epousés Pour Deux Mois!

Yesterday (Wednesday the 17th) was our two-month anniversary! Crazy!

Anyhoo, my ol' printer broke! Right when I had to print out 50 postcards for a show Carrie & Lisa are doing. Here's the postcard:

So I had to drive Carrie over to Lisa's and then go over to Fred Meyer to the bank, and then over to Target so buy a new printer. Here's what I got:

As an added bonus, Target had a working display version of the new Nintendo DS. Pretty damned kick-ass!

All in all, not exactly how I'd like to spend my two-month anniversary, but we still had an enjoyable evening after everything was said and done. I played Animal Crossing to put her to sleep. Tee-hee!

A "By the Way" Entry: Mary's Birthday Present

I totally forgot to this to y'all. Earlier I said I had a secret something-or-other to do with Mary's birthday. Well, for a present I painted her a picture. And here it is. I call it "Mary's Leaf"

I painted it using acrylics on canvas board. The flash makes the leaf look more shiny than it should. I guess I slathered on the paint so thickly that the flash got all refracted. The real painting is, of course, mucho plus bettero.

Still Too Spicy

I still have a bit of the sicky. On Friday we went to The Rosewood for Mary's Birthday and I gave her my present. Carrie Clausen came down, which was cool. We were all supposed to head back to our place to hang out afterwards, but Carrie & I were too sick and needed our rest.

Over the weekend I was unable to do either Fools Play or Fools Play practice due to the sicky. Yesterday, however, we did go up to Marie Callendar's for my G-ma's 87th birthday, even though Carrie (especially) felt pretty lousy. We spent literally the rest of the day playing Animal Crossing. Gah! I also started working on my Christmas list...

I think I may be over the hump. Like hiding in a cave for a long time and only now peeking your head out to see if the coast is clear.

I'm Still Sick

I'm still sick. It's devolved into a ton of mucous and a sore throat. Last night was rough.

But anyway. Yesterday the kids came over for a short while before dinner and Julian played Animal Crossing. Then we took them out to Red Robin for dinner, and Carrie dropped me off back at home before she took them to their home, where they played Animal Crossing on the big screen, which Carrie said was pretty cool. She stayed until Mark got home, which was around 10:30, then she came home and we went to the bed.

Can't Deny... That You're Silly

Would you belive that I've caught another cold of some sort!? Crazy, man! This one seems to be all nose. I thought at first that it was just some sorta sever allergic reaction to something, but now it feels definitely like a cold. Hopefully it will also only last a day (like the one I got last week).

I have Mary's birthday present now. I can't tell you what it is on the one-in-a-hundred chance that she might actually visit this website between now and Friday. My grandma's birthday is this weekend, too.

So when I wrote that new article yesterday and tried to upload it, I kept getting error messages. I wonder if my website is getting full? That would be a bad.

Carrie & I have been playing some more Animal Crossing recently. Boy, that's something that I don't really have time for, but is almost impossible to stop playing.

Chickon Goot

Nothing too terribly much more to report, other than the incredibly exciting news that I have a new client. I'm going to see Sky Captain tomorrow, and should have a review up shortly thereafter. I should also have another article in just a bit (later today I estimate). And you should always check out Static just to see if I've written a couple more paragraphs (for some reason, Chapter 2 has always been a huge blocking point). I'm also gonna do that whole "Mary's Birthday Present" thing.

Homemade Chicken Noodle Soup is good.

C'est Incroyable

After seeing the kids off to the bus yesterday (Friday) morning, I dropped Carrie off directly at the store and then came home. I worked a whole bunches on the wholesale section of TheBeadFactory.com—very exciting because it's very complicated program-wise. Nicole and Erin had both dropped off handouts they wanted me to create for them. What I didn't know was that Nicole's class was that night. Woulda been nice to have known that; I probably would have made it a higher priority. Sorry, Nicole!

After Carrie got off of work we went down to Proctor so that she could pick up the teapot she painted at that paint-your-own-ceramics place, and so that I could pick up a couple of birthday presents elsewehre at the same time. Myseterious.

Then we went to Fred Meyer's. The lines took frikkin' forever! Carrie is seriously considering complaining. I think she should, because it took us longer to get through the line than it did to pick out the groceries—and it's not like we only got a couple of things, either! We loaded up with about $75 dollars of flavor tastes!

The line took so long, in fact, that we didn't have time to drive home and put it all away before going to Lakewood. It was a good thing that the night was very cold (somewhere in the 30s we estimated), else some perishable stuff might have perished. As it was, it chilled comfortably in the freezing cold car.

Oh, why were we going to Lakewood? Why, to see The Incredibles, of course! And—gasp—I've already written the review for it! C'est Incroyable! Carrie was so starving (because we didn't have time to go home because Fred Meyer took so frikkin' long) that she actually bought and ate a movie theater hot dog. But we had a fun time and thankfully didn't have to watch The 20. Instead we had to watch about 43 commercials for "Bigg's Adventures" or some such s--t. Looks horrible. But it was a nice night out with the little woman.

Over-Nighter

Carrie & I went over to Mark & Viki's to watch their kids for the evening. We stopped and got Pappa Murphy's on the way there. We also brought along Animal Crossing because we figured it would keep them occupied and out of trouble. Boy, were we right. Once Julian got his hands on the game he was absolutely hooked. Trevor at one point said, "Um, we want this for Christmas."

To which Carrie replied, "Yeah, we'll get right on that (sarcasm)."

We started a completely new town (called "Bib Baby") and they created their characters. Trevor was QXXT and Julian was Yo Mamma. I'm not sure what I'll name my character yet. Maybe f~Body again?

I finally saw Finding Nemo on the big screen (Mark's home projector), then I watched Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope as well. Jabba didn't look so hot. Neither did a lot of the computer generated "improvements."

Oh, well. We made pizza and cookies and went to bed, then woke up in the morning around 7:00 (around the time Julian woke up and went down to play more Animal Crossing).

Of the Month: November 2004

It's the first of the month, so here are my "Of the Month" picks for November 2004:

LINK OF THE MONTH:
ANGRY BEEF!

Okay, so this has been my Link of the Month before. But I've just recently done a complete re-design of the site, and in just a few days all of the Sightings will be transferred over (if they aren't already by the time you read this), and it will be like a whole new site. I've missed it. I'm glad it's back.

BOOK OF THE MONTH:
Static: A Novel
by Christopher Grant Harris

Notice any similarity between the name of this author and, oh, say, my name? This month I'm doing something a little different. November is "National Novel Writing Month," so I'm going to be writing in my novel all month long, and I thought it would be cool if y'all could read along with my progress. I have the prologue and the first chapter posted already. Go take a read, and check back frequently as I write more and more! This is really freakin' exciting.

DVD OF THE MONTH:
The Lost Skeleton of Cadavra

Goddam, this is an hilarious movie. A completely straight-faced parody of crappy, low-budget drive-through SciFi movies of the 50s and 60s, including horrible dialogue, inappropriate laughter, obvious budget shortcuts, and an extended second act in which the plot doesn't get advanced at all. A skeleton, aliens, a mutant, two scientists, an animal woman, and the element "Atmospherium." If you have seen a few of the movies upon which this one is based, you'll love it. If not, give it a pass; it'll be just as painful as watching the real thing.

Happy Hall Hallows' Heve, Heverybody

That's right, yesterday was Halloween, one of the bestest holidays of them all. This was the first year that Carrie & I lived in a house, so we actually got to give out candy! And we weren't no sucky-ass candy house. We gave out actual, real-life candy bars, not those tiny "mimi" candy bars, or suckers, or packages of Smarties or SweeTarts. We were the "cool" house on the block.

I dressed up as Sinistar for Halloween. I carved a total of five pumpkins. One of Pac-Man, and the other four as Inky, Blinky, Pinky, and Clyde. I'm going to write a more thorough article about all this soon, so as Fezbot Sezbot would say, "Sit back, relax, and rocks."
