Yesterday (Thursday) after I picked Carrie up from work we drove up to Seattle to the apartment of Sandy & Mathias to hang out with them and eat dinner at Maneki.
Maneki is just phenomenal. It's my favorite Japanese restaurant of all time. It's way too easy to order way too much stuff just because you want it all. I had (let's see)...
- Steamed salmon in foil pouch with onions, mushroom, and a miso sauce (my favorite item on the menu)
- Fresh salmon nigiri
- Squid nigiri
- Tuna roll
I also ate from various appetizers (like octopus balls and taro balls) and some vegetable tempura.
Sandy & Mathias go there so often that at the end of the meal the waitress gave them New Year's gifts that she had bought them—Sandy got a Hello Kitty engagement calendar!
The only problem with the place is that it's so popular that you often have to wait a long time to get seated, as was the case last night. Sandy had actually called ahead and everything, but when we got there we still sat in the bar for quite a while before getting seated.
From there we went to a place that has bubble tea and juice and all that sort of things. I had a lemon slush with tapioca pearls in it. Rather tasty!
By the time we went back to their apartment and then drove home, it was 11:00 at night! Yikes!
