It started off simple enough with a little bit of sleeping in, and then Carrie & I went to Trader Joe's and Safeway. We walked around the neighborhood, and even found the house into which one of the new Bead Babes is moving. She was on her back porch on her phone. The day didn't really start taking off until my brother picked me up for the Fools Play workshop.
The workshop was attended by the usual attendees, sans Leia & Kedar (who were at PAX), plus two guys who hadn't been there before. But Taisha showed up about half an hour into the workshop with a gaggle of teenage girls.
After the workshop we all of us (almost) went to the sub sammitch corner in olympia, so-called by me because across the street from a Subway Sandwich place is an indie subway sammitch place. Mike & I got our sammitches there due to their unbelievable superiority to the Subway Sandwich sammitches. But everyone else went there, so we got our sammitches to go and I ate mine in the competing restaurant. There's some good stories behind that sub sammitch corner, maybe someday I'll relay them. Maybe... maybe not.
When we got back to the theater Geoffs was already there setting up, which was ve'y cool. We practiced many, many rasslin' moves, for last night was
Fools Play Rasslin' League:
Hot Time in the Old Town Tonight
Holy crap. If you missed it you should never forgive yourself, because it was freakin' amazing. Especially considering we only had two weeks to prep three new characters. It was something else; one of the best FPRL shows we've ever done (some people are calling it the very best).
And the place was absolutely packed. So many people came out to see the show that they had to actually move the box office table outside. In fact, Brandy was actually sitting just outside the doorway to outside. Here, I took a picture:
You can kind of see the blurry Brandy way the heck back there. I'm told it wasn't our biggest audience ever, but it was one of the most responsive ever. They were totally into the show, and all of Taisha's and Geoff's new characters were completely "over" with the crowd.
I was supremely happy with it.
Afterwards almost everybody (I'm not kidding) went out to the Rib Eye restaurant. I hung out at a table with Mathias, Brandy, and Mathias's friend from Florida (and bandmember of Neskimos), Dan.
It was also a little bittersweet because it was Brandy's last night in town. She had to be at the airport at 5:00 AM or something ridiculous, so she decided just to pull an all-nighter and come hang out with us all after the show. But she'll be back in town for Heather & Chris's wedding in less than a month and a half. Very cool. I gave her a painting (link is probably Not Safe For Work) as a going-away present. I also took a photo of her that she probably wouldn't be too happy if I posted. So I won't.
By the way, I finished re-vamping her website. You should check it out.
Eventually Sandy & Mathias (along with Dan) took me on home to my wife.
Even still today at practice Mike, Geoff, and I were all talking about just how well the show went and just how much the audience loved it. It was very gratifying, and plus we made an entire month's rent in just that one night. So that's a nice bonus.
