Chipping Away

Yesterday (Sunday), being still sick, I decided to stay home from practice. Nothing of much interest happened during the majority of the day.

In the late afternoon Carrie & I did reap some bounty from our backyard garden, including many cherry tomatoes and a small handfull of tiny strawberries. Carrie also grabbed a tonne of mint, and around 6:00 Steph, Christine, Laura, Lawrence, and Katie S. came over and learned how to make mojitos. They then (almost all) walked down to The Primo Grill for a Bead Factory meeting. As they were leaving the house Gretchen happened to drive by. She saw everybody and pulled quickly to the curb and hopped out, saying that she wanted to walk with the cool people.

I stayed home and sat around for a couple of hours.

Our landlady is going to re-paint the exterior of the house (in fact someone was just over here power-washing it down), but in exciting news she is letting us pick the colors. So after Carrie got home from the Bead Factory meeting we looked through a tonne of paint chips to decide on some colors. I think we got some good'uns.

Sickofit

So Yesterday (Saturday) I was still sick. I think I'm still even a little sick today. And I'm sick of it. Sick... of... it. Sickofit.

Nevertheless I did go to Trader Joe's with Carrie (after we swung by Lisa's house to grab an earring stand) around noon, and then by 3:00 I was down in Olympia for the first Fools Play Workshop. Teh Jake and Essa (sp?) showed up for it. Afterwards Mike & I went to an Italian restaurant that has very cool decor that nonetheless cannot hide the fact that all of its windows view the cemetery across the street.

Then we performed Robot Repair Shop, which is a very fun format. Once you get into it, it kinda just goes. A strange thing, though, was that we'd set out 12 robot sheets for the audience to fill out, but we only got seven back despite the fact that there were far more than 12 people in the audience. What happened to the other five? The world... may never know.

Because I was still sick after the show I decided to go straight home, despite the fact that I really wanted to hang out with all the people there. I was rather cranky and grumpy by the time I got back.

Usually a cold like this will last 48-72 hours at the most. I got this on Tuesday and here it is Sunday. What gives?

Kitchen Pasta

Yesterday (Thursday) for din-dins Carrie made what she calls "Kitchen Pasta." Basically you boil up whatever noodles you have, and then you make a sauce out of whatever you can scrounge together. We happened to have some onions, garlic, bacon, sour cream, and a couple of different types of cheeses, so the result was a smokey, creamy goodness.

In the evening we watched the results show of So You Think You Can Dance. Carrie had gone over to Cat's to watch the regular wednesday show, but I was still too sick. I'm still a little tiny bit sick today (just stuffed up is all).

1344 Kilometers

That's about 835 miles for us Yanks. That's the round-trip from here in Tacoma, up to the Double T Ranch at Bridge Lake, British Columbia, Canada, and back again.

We actually got back late Monday night, but I promptly got sick so I haven't actually done anything other than lie around the house. Hence no updates to this website, because there has been nothing to update. I'll easily be over this by Saturday, so I'll write more then.

Out of the Country

I'm going out of the country (just to Canadia) tomorrow morning, very early—like 4:30 AM early—so I won't be able to update until I get back. Hopefully I'll have some good yarns to spin, though.

I forgot to mention this yesterday, but the CD cover I designed got printed, and Locust Street Taxi sent me a copy of the CD! Check it out!

I'm very proud. I haven't listened to the CD yet. Hopefully it'll be good and I won't be embarrassed to have my name and artwork associated with the album.

So, today Carrie walked to work, but was only there for about an hour before I got coffee and picked her up. I drove her up to the Lareau household, and they all piled in the big SUV and went up to Ferndale to see the Lareaus' new pug puppy. They get to take it home next week. Carrie said it was very cute.

While she was way up north (where we'll be passing through tomorrow, in fact), I went out and bought some Poul Anderson books at Half-Priced Books. I've always wanted to see what Poul was all about. <nerd>He started writing in the so-called Golden Age of Science Fiction, along with Heinlein, Asimov, and Clarke, and had a tremendously prolific career up until his death in 2001 (not a Space Odyssey).</nerd>

I organized our CDs so that it would be easy to choose which ones to take with. Then around 6:00 I went and picked Carrie up from the Lareau house and cooked mandarin chicken for din-dins. Nyki stopped by so we could give her the rundown on the house, 'cause she's going to be staying here while we're gone. I went and filled the gas tank, and then after that it was all packing and cleaning. That's where we are now.

Thee ya later, thuckerth!

Ugly Mug

Yesterday (Wednesday) I took Brandy out to lunch at Over the Moon Café where we each had the grilled cheese sammitch (one of the best in any restaurant evar). Afterwards we walked down St. Helens and up Broadway and poked our heads into a couple of shops, including Trouve (which does not have the accent on the "e" on the sign outside, but does have it on some of the price tags, like "Trouvé") and the What Shoppe. I took her back to my house so she could pick up her car and then we both separately drove to the store, she to work and me to give a grilled cheese sammitch to Carrie for her lunch. I enjoy hanging out with Brandy, and seeing as how she's leaving for New York in just barely over a month, I think I'll try to hang out with her as much as possible before then.

When I got back home I cleaned out the car of a full bag's worth of garbage and then drove it to Jiffy Lube. They said it'd be 45 minuts, so instead of sitting in that hot, muggy little wainting room sniffing gasoline fumes, I walked down to the Bead Factory.

For some reason what had started out as a nice, sunny day had turned into an abhorrently humid, muggy day. A weird, low, muggy cloud settled over Tacoma for the rest of the afternoon. It wasn't sunny or particularly hot, but I was getting soaking wet without any physical exertion. One of the reasons why I really like the Pacific Northwest is that even though it rains an awful lot, it never gets terribly humid like it does on the east coast. Except for yesterday.

So I was plenny muggy by the time I got to the Bead Factory. When I walked in Gretchen was behind the counter. When she saw me she straightened up and cleared her throat. "Hello, customer," she said. "Can I help you find any beads? Or perhaps..." her posture collapsed into an excited wiggle and she practically squealed out, "Hi, Chris!" It was adorable.

I went into the back to say hi to my wife and used the restroom before heading on back to Jiffy Lube. They had my car already ready even though I had only been gone 35 minutes (they were actually quicker than their estimate—crazy, I know).

I stopped at the house very briefly to pick up a shopping list and then picked Carrie up from the store. We hit Costco, Target, and the Proctor Safeway to buy stuff for our trip this weekend as well as stuff for the up-coming evening. I also got a polish sausage at Costco.

I was very excited because we got some carpet cleaner and I used it to clean up some of the lighter-colored stains on the carpet (three or four out of the 7,000 stains on the carpet). I then used some of the groceries to put together a huge pan of nachos with such ingredients as black olives, diced tomatoes, green onions, cilantro, and cheese. At 7:45 we picked Laura up at her house and drove to Cat & Chris's house to watch that So You Think You Can Dance show.

Cat was making an absolutely enormous batch of pigs-in-a-blankets (or would that just be "pigs-in-blankets" without the a?), one of about three or four that were made during the course of the night. I baked our nachos and opened the wine we brought. Chritine and Lawrence brought lemon squares. Heather was also there but just for a little bit, and Steph showed up a while after Heather left.

There was a lot of food, and I ate far too much of it. It also got really, really hot in that tiny little living room, so at one point I had to unbutton my shirt a little bit and walk around outside to cool off. It's too bad Brandy couldn't join us (she had to work until 10:30 or some crap like that), but as I understand it she headed over there after we left because Cat & Chris are also going out of town this weekend and Brandy is house-sitting for them.

Adaptation

Yesterday (Tuesday) I ate Carrie's leftover cheesesteak sammitch from XXX Root Beer around 10:00 in the morning. I wasn't hungry again until 7:00 at night.

In between those two extremes I went to Radio Shack and bought a car adaptor so that we can plug stuff in (like a DS or a portable DVD player) during our upcoming long car trip.

Oh, yeah, by the way: I'll be out of the country from Friday through Monday. Just in case anybody was interested.

Also during the day I washed some pots and pans, the kinds of things that aren't dishwasher safe.

In the evening, after I took Carrie back to the store so she could teach Peyote Stitch to a full room, there were two episodes of season 2 of Veronica Mars on channel 11. At least there were supposed to be. I watched one of them, but the other was pre-empted due to some Mariners game rain-delay crap. Boo! Not that I should really be watching Veronica Mars Season 2 on TV, since it's about halfway through the season right now and I have no idea what happened during the first half of the season.

After Carrie called and told me to put a pizza in the oven for her so she'd have something to eat when she was done with class, I decided to utilize the very hearty mint in the backyard and make a mint julep. It wasn't very good, unfortunately; I guess I don't quite know how to make one correctly.

I do, however, apparently know how to grow cherry tomatoes very well, because earlier in the day when I was out there watering, I picked one and popped it in my mouth. It was fantastic! And I don't usually like raw tomatoes! I also ate a strawberry, but it probably could have waited another few days ('twas a bit bitter still).

Burning Water

The people of Hydrogen Technology Applications have discovered a way to make water into a burnable gas. For cheap. Watch the video on the bottom-right of the page (it's 16 minutes long, so broadband only, probably).

Maybe the Bead Factory should get one of those machines instead of using all that butane in their torches...?

Happy Fambly Birthday to Mike

Yesterday (Monday) was my brother's family birthday celebration thing. The only interesting thing before that was that I went to Fred Meyer's and deposited some rolled coin in the bonk, and then bought some sunscreen. Oh, and I bought some stamps at Neighborhood Market on the way home.

Oh, wait. That wasn't interesting at all.

After I picked Carrie up from work she went and hung out with Linnea for a bit, then at 5:30 the two of us drove up to my folks' place in Federal Way slash Auburn. We then (all seven of us) piled into a van for an uncomfortable ride out to Issaquah of all places, to have dinner at XXX Root Beer (pronounced "Triple-X" like the movie). There were navigation woes due to the fact that Mike printed out directions, but our mom decided to go a different way, so a left turn was made when a right turn should have been, and then the street numbers were going the wrong way, so a couple of U-turns were made unnecessarily. My family always gets like this when driving around—everybody thinks they know the correct way and just cannot sit back and let one person drive and one person navigate. Susan, Carrie, and I were all sitting in the way back of the van, though, so we were much more able to watch than get drawn into it all (although I did get a little drawn into it at one point) through our "invisible curtain."

XXX is quite excellent (notice I refrained from putting two extra X's into "excellent"). It's a 50s-style diner that boasts the biggest freakin' root beer floats I've ever seen. Hugenormous. Their burgers ain't nothin' to laugh at neither. I had the "Tri-Power," which was a burger patty, a slice of ham, and some bacon. I got the "regular" sized root beer float, which is still a lot bigger than most places. But Mike got the XXX Super float, which is just enormous. They put a scoop of ice cream on the rim of the mug like a garnish.

The way home was much better than the way there due to the fact that we already knew where we were going, and us kids were all a little loopy from too much food and ice cream and root beer. Also, Susan's new character of "The Almost-Home Gnome" provided plenny of hilarity.

We opened presents shortly after getting back home (after I made a rush trip to the bathroom). The present I ordered for Mike hasn't shown up yet, even though I ordered it a long time ago. So to tide him over I painted (earlier in the day, not right then) a tiny canvas robot, which also happens to be my Painting of the Week #5:

I call it "Blue Warningbot" and it's only 4" x 6" (hence "tiny canvas robot" like I said earlier). He also got Kirby Canvas Curse and Animal Crossing: Wild World, which he is hesitant to open because it will consume his life.

Carrie & I were too full to eat any birthday cake there, so we were allowed to take some home, which we did. I also snagged my birth certificate and a book of Ukulele chords.

Instead of going straight home, I dropped Carrie off at Asado so she could hang out with Viki and Laura Belkin at Asado for just a bit. She called me to say she was walking back, so I walked towards her and met her halfway home to escort her the rest of the way like the gentleman I am. Yay me!

This House... is Clean!
(Mostly)

Yesterday (Sunday) there was no FP Practice, so instead Carrie & I spent most of the day cleaning up. I concentrated mostly on the kitchen, which is now mostly done. There were many episodes of Mythbusters on the TV during the course of the day, which was good for me.

Carrie ended up going to Nordstrom's twice during the day, once with Linnea and once with Gretchen. She also cleaned the store with Gretchen (after Nordstrom's).

I made pizzas for din-dins, and we played some Mario Kart while we ate. I should say that we tried to play some Mario Kart. Carrie kept coming in 4th place through no fault of her own, so we called it quits after just a few tracks.

It was (as you can tell) a rather un-eventful day.

Consider This Conversation Started

Yesterday (Saturday) while Carrie was hanging out with Missa & Linnea in the morning, I saw the final-ever episode of Teen Titans (which I had never before seen). Now there are only two or three episodes I haven't seen...

Around noontime Carrie & I went with the Tarbet women to the Gig Harbor Farmer's Market. We didn't end up getting anything except for something to eat and drink. But what a something to eat! It was an Onion Dog, which consisted of a rather large Polish sausage wrapped in freshly-fried bread and topped with sauteéd onions. A tonne of onions. And how do I know the bread was freshly fried? Because I watched the woman roll it out and then dunk it in the deep fat fryer. It was plenny spectacular. The giant cup of lemonade cost almost as much as the dog, though. While we were wandering around and eating, Last Chance Romeos were performing live.

The afternoon was spent watching that World Series of Pop Culture show on VH1 and using crackers to eat brie with a yummy basalmic reduction syrup (à la Carrie).

I was actually the first person to get to Studio 321 for Fools Play. It was rather surprising to me. It was a brand-new format, the full-show-length version of Conversation Starter. It went really, really well, with only a couple of flubs (but not so that the audience would ever notice). I hope some of the songs sound okay; I'd like at some point to actually be able to hear some of the Fools Play audio other than what's in the Theater space on Fools Play Island...

Afterwards we went to Rib Eye, and I actually ended up being one of the last people to leave instead of one of the first people... but I still only left like 20-30 minutes later than I usually do. I explained to a couple of audience members that I had a problem. You see, I touch the fire and it freezes me. I look into it and it's black. Why can't I feel? My skin should crack and peel. I want the fire back. And also every single night it's the same arrangement: I go out and fight the fight. Still I always feel this strange estrangement; nothing here is real, nothing here is right. I've been making shows of trading blows just hoping no one knows that I've been going through the motions, walking through the part. Nothing seems to penetrate my heart. (Mike & I have been showing off that we have the Buffy musical memorized).

Happy Birthday Party to Mike

Yesterday (Friday), other than forgetting to write in this website, let's see what happened, shall we? We shall.

After taking Carrie back to the store after lunch, I went almost directly to Fred Meyer's to deposit my paycheck. From there I went to the Neighborhood Market to buy stamps to mail out some bills, but the post office in the back of the store was closed for an "audit." Rowr! I bought some Cheetos and some Western Family Lemon/Lime Soda, though.

Carrie left with Heather shortly after I brought her home, but she left her cell phone behind (presumably by accident), so when Brandy called with a question for her I directed her to try Heather. Then around 6:45 I drove the Cheetos and the Soda over to my brother's apartment for his 32nd Birthday Party. A goodly number of people showed up. Beth & Brian brought an X-Box on which they'd put NES and SNES emulators, as well as (claimed) every video game for each system. So for most of the night some video game was going on. They even roped me into playing a few levels of <shudder> Golgo 13: Top Secret Episode. I also played a game of Mario Kart DS vs Leia, Kedar, and Mathias. I won, but only because Leia came in 5th on the final race. Whew!

At some point during the night Mike played for me, Geoff, and Taisha the fantastic (and real) record, Religion for Retarded - Lessons 13 & 14 (about halfway down page). Absolutely spectacular. Did you know your table food is not Jesus? Well, now I know.

By the way, that 365 Days Project site is really phenomenal. I suggest you check it out.

Food Belly

I took the last couple of days off from blogging, which is okay because nothing much of interest happened. Not that I often have anything interesting to write about; my website is often a list of when I drove Carrie to work, when I went to the bank at Fred Meyer's, and what we had for dinner. Booo-ring!

Yesterday was Carrie's final day off after the PSBF. We didn't really get up and going until after 11:00 in the morning, which is very late for us. She made some jewelry in the afternoon and hung out with Linnea a bit, and I wrote another movie review! Read it here:

Brick (2005)

It's a good thing I wrote that review when I did, because the two of us decided to go see the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie early that evening (the 6:20 showing at the big Lakewood theater). Now I'm only three movie reviews beind: Cars, Nacho Libré, and Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest.

On the way to the theater we drove down 6th Ave, and as we passed a pedestrian walking in the rain Carrie suddenly said, "That's Gena!"

So we pulled over and offered her a ride, which she gratefully accepted. After driving her to her house (which is in the opposite direction of the theater), we made it into our seats with about two minutes to go before showtime.

After the movie (which is really, really long, by the way), we were both very hungry because we hadn't eaten dinner beforehand, and here it was almost 10:00 at night. So we stopped by a drugstore and I got some macaroni and milk, and then I made an absolutely monstroustly huge batch of homemade Macaroni & Cheese (from scratch, of course), of which I ate much too much. I woke up in the morning with a bit of a stummy ache. Whoops!

The End is Here

Yesterday (Sunday) I did my chauffeuring duties for the final day of the PSBF. Hooray! I made potstickers for (b)lunch, and Lisa gave me half a calzone for early dinner. After I finally picked up Carrie the three of us went to The Parkway for burgers 'n' beer. When we came home Carrie showed off what she'd bought at the store (mostly silver), and then we played a game of Mario Kart before bed.

Do Not Be Alarmed

Yesterday (Saturday) everybody was going to the PSBF at different times, but after my chauffeur duties I found the house relaxing and all to myself. I did some dishes, took a nap in the afternoon, and played a WFC game of Mario Kart DS (I tied).

Mike picked me up for Fools Play, which was "Tribute" (a very good show). We forgot a couple of good clips for me, though, including "Chance cube, go!" and the guy who can't wink.

Afterwards we went to Rib Eye and I got squeezed into a booth seat between Taisha and Sandy, and across from Leah and Mathias. All in all a very pleasant situation for me. I had a pancake, a scrambled egg, two pieces of bacon and two sausage links.

Leah & Kedar brought me home, but not before driving me back to the theater so I could pick up the murse I'd stupidly forgotten there. In my defense I hadn't been carrying it around very much recently, so when I left the theater it wasn't on my "take these items with me" list. But really, there is no defense.

About ten minutes away from home I got a call from Carrie saying that she was going to bed, and also that Laura was over at our house getting a massage from Healing Hands Therapuetic Massage, so not to be alarmed when I got there. They were just finishing up (it was about Midnight:30) when I did arrive. I was not alarmed.

Paddies

Yesterday (Friday) morning Gary & I walked to the store to snag Carrie, who was already there picking stuff up, and I then drove them both to the PSBF. I came home and had a very uneventful, relaxing day. Lisa decided not to go to the PSBF, so we just kinda hung out around the house.

Carrie had a kind of split-shift but was out most of the afternoon running errands anyway. I decided to paint my 4th Painting of the Week. I couldn't find where Carrie had put my water glass when she'd cleaned the office, but I made due with a plastic cup. I filled it with water and put my brushes in it, and Fantastico almost immediately stuck her face down in it and knocked it over. Bad kitty!

Here's what I came up with:

I think it's only okay. I'll do better next week... somehow...

I drove Lisa & Carrie back to the show so they could teach their respective classes, and a couple hours later the vendor part of the show closed down, so I drove back down there and picked up Gary. We stopped at a gas station on the way home so he could grab a brew and some smokes, and after he'd consumed them we drove out to Puyallup to Ed's post-4th party, which had a very good turnout. I hung out with Nathe & Alicia quite a bit, and David was there as well, along with tonnes of people I'd never met and several of the usual suspects. It was goodtimes. We only stayed for a couple of hours because Carrie & Lisa finished with their classes so Gary & I drove back to the PSBF and picked them up.

When we got back home I cooked up some ravioli while Carrie sliced some fresh mozarella and poured olive oil, basalmic vinegar, and salt on the slices for an appetizer. 'Twas good. Gary played his music for the girls while the ravioli cooked, and then we watched the pilot of Veronica Mars while eating. Gary & I even played a few tracks of Mario Kart before I went to bed.

Free Pastry Foodstuffs

Yesterday (Thursday) when Carrie, Lisa, & I went and got our coffee (okay, I didn't get any coffee, but the twain of them did) at Starbucks, they also gave us a rather large cardboard box packed full of bakery goods. Apparently there had been some sort of a mix-up with their delivery (or something; I didn't catch it exactly), and so they were donating all of this stuff to the PSBF. Neat-o!

After I got home and was going through my day for a while, I noticed that my cell phone wasn't in my pants where it normally is. I couldn't find it anywhere. I looked in all the usual places, even out in the car, and it just weren't nowhere t'be found.

As I was in the bedroom doing laundry, Carrie suddenly re-appeared in the house and told me that my cell phone was underneath her pillow! She'd been trying to call me, but then realized that she'd stuck my phone under her pillow in the morning (presumably to lessen the impact of its morning alarm) and that's why I couldn't A) find it or B) hear it. Very amusing!

Later in the afternoon I got some more coffee and delivered it down to the Sheraton, where Carrie & Brandy were setting up for the Teachers' Showcase portion of the show.

I went and picked Carrie & Lisa up after the show and we went straight to Katie Downs for onion rings and pizza. I was also craving a burger, so I got their gorgonzola burger, which doesn't have gorgonzola crumbles on it like at a normal place. Instead, it has a whole slab of gorgonzola on it! Very tasty.

Neighbor Gary showed up a while after we got home, and I whupped him a little bit at Mario Kart before going to bed.

4th Follow-Ups

A couple of things I forgot to mention: I actually got some sun on the 4th! It's been a couple of years since my skin changed color really at all. I'm a tiny bit pink on my forearms, and even my legs got just a smidge of color (it's hard for them to get any color due to the self-grown blanket of hair that covers them). Carrie got much more sun than I; her upper back and shoulders were pretty dark pink by the next day. Ouch. Lotsa freckles comin', though, which I think are always cute on a gal.

Also, I took my digital camera to the park with me, but this is the only photo I took:

It's a very nice photo, though! Such a cute family.

Umm... yeah, I think that's about it. I've decided to write an Article about how to play Two-Sticks, for those of you few who don't already know. Look for that after the weekend probably. I also just wrote a movie review of A Prairie Home Companion, which you can read by clicking the link below:

...and Cult Jam

Yesterday (Wednesday) Carrie went in to work and I bought her a coffee as usual. She didn't come home for lunch. I did laundry basically all day. At one point I had a huge pile of clean clothes on the bed, so I put on Veronica Mars and folded and put away all the clothes. It took me almost an episode and a half before I was done with it all. I also dusted the living room rather thoroughly.

I got Carrie after work and we let Roomba run around in the office after Carrie finished cleaning it out. It looks really, really good in here now.

Carrie left around 8:00 to go pick up Lisa from the airport. While she was gone I walked to the Neighborhood Market and bought salsa, sour cream, sliced black olives, and a jalapeño pepper. When I got back home I grated up a tonne of cheese and in a big pan I layered tortilla chips with the cheese and the olives, and also some diced-up tomatoes. I made an enormous pile of nachos.

I watched some Mythbusters and some Celebrity Poker Showdown until Carrie and Lisa arrived (hooray), at which point I put the nachos in the oven and poured some margaritas for the three of us. Carrie made some quick guacamole. We then all sat around the couch and stuffed ourselves on unhealthy foodstuffs!

Good times. Good times.

4th

Yesterday (Tuesday) was obviously the 4th of July. Carrie & I loaded up our car and met the Tarbets at a Safeway parking lot around 10:30 in the morning, and then we all drove off to Penrose Point State Park on the Key Peninsula. I'd never been back there before. It's pretty secluded.

We were eventually joined by some other Bead Babes, including Christine, Heather, Melissa, and Laura, and their significant others where applicable. Also Jay's friend John was there. I taught everybody how to play Two-Sticks, and at one point this li'l kid named Sergei (there was a big contingent of Russians at the part that day as well) came over and asked if he could play, so we showed him how and he really got into it.

There was also walking over to a lagoon, playing croquet, and snacking & barbequeing. And also some drinking.

Eventually around dusk we decided to head out, but first we helped Jay, who had accidentally locked his keys in the truck. He figured out how to pop the back window out of place and then used a coat hanger to hook the keys. It was really cool.

Carrie & I drove back home. I started to watch the documentary about Superman, but I fell asleep so I went to bed instead. But around 4:00 in the AM I woke up and couldn't go back to sleep until around 6:00 or so! It suxored. I'm plenny tired right now because of it.

They Don't Make 'Em Anymore

I did not have any time to write in my blog yesterday (Tuesday), so here quickly is what happened on Monday:

On Monday I painted my third Painting of the Week while watching the Dreamworks animated film The Road to El Dorado. Strange. Strange movie. Probably better than Disney's Atlantis, though.

I embarked on a grand quest. Remember those three items that I couldn't find at K-Mart? Well, I went to find them. They were:
  • A purple or red shower curtain liner
  • A smallish ice tea container, the kind that has a spout towards the bottom of it
  • A badminton set

I went first to Fred Meyer because I also had some checks to deposit at the bonk there. I located a badminton set for $14.95, but no red or purple shower curtain liners, and only some cheap-ish looking iced tea container things. I put the badminton set back and decided to just get everything at Target.

Target was out of iced tea container things. Target had no red or purple shower curtain liners. This made three place (including K-Mart) that did not have any red or purple shower curtain liners! Do they not make them anymore!? I called Carrie at the store to tell her that red and/or purple shower curtain liners apparently do not exist any more, and we settled on a tan one instead. Also, the cheapest badminton set at Target was almost #30.

I got the shower curtain liner and headed back to Fred Meyer for the badminton set and the iced tea container thing. Sheesh!

I also cleaned the bathroom pretty thoroughly (scrubbing and mopping and all that kind of thing) on Monday.

Mars Attacks

Yesterday (Sunday) Carrie actually went in to work at 7:00 in the AM; what with it being so close to the Puget Sound Bead Festival she had a lot of work to do. I picked her up for lunch around 11:00 and then again after work around 2:00. In between those two times I cleaned the kitchen surfaces (except the floor).

In the afternoon we played some Mario Kart and went to Costco to buy supplies for us all during the PSBF. When we got back I swept and Roomba'd the kitchen floor, and started to mop it when I got a call from Christine saying that the PSBF classes were supposed to be unavailable for sign-ups as of Saturday night, only nobody ever thought to tell me this. Whoops on their part! I'm innocent. So Carrie finished mopping while I did that PSBF stuffs.

Carrie had a store meeting at 6:30, so I brought her to that, and then I know I did something while she was gone, but I can't really remember what all. I know I ran Roomba in the living/dining room, but that's more what Roomba did than what I did.

<Edit> 7/6/06:
I remember now! I went to the big K-Mart in Tacoma looking for a list of items that Carrie gave me. I cannot speak K-Mart's language; I had a hell of a time finding anything. In the end there were three items that I just could not locate whatsoever.
</Edit>

Anyway, the meeting went long. Carrie called me as soon as it finished and I put the gigantic Costco pizza into the oven. And I do mean gigantic. The huge, square monstrosity barely fit into the oven at all! Laura drove Carrie back to the house so I didn't have to pick her up. Laura also brought over a peach/rasberry pie that she'd made herself! Awexome!

Brandy soon joined us at the house as well. Carly was s'posed to come too, but she decided to go home instead (which is a little weird, because it was her idea to get together in the first place, I think). We ate the giant pizza (and half the pie) and watched a couple of episodes of Veronica Mars (the last two of the 2nd disc). Laura is now the only one who hasn't seen them all.

The pie she made was really tasty! At the risk of sounding dirty, I like eating Laura's pie.

Laura & Brandy left with hugs and then Carrie & I went to bed. At least, we tried to go to bed, but our core temperatures were way high due to the hot-hot day. So instead Carrie brought the DS outside and played some Mario Kart DS on the cool night's front porch while I came outside with her and made sure Ms. Kitty Fantastico didn't stray too far from the path to the front gate. Eventually we were cooled down enough that we were able to stand being in the bedroom.

"Moving" vs "Packing"

Yesterday (Saturday) morning Carrie & I went over to Steph's apartment to help her move. Well, that's what she said she needed help with. Hmmm... let me explain.

When you say that you want help "moving," that to me means that you want help picking things up (boxes, furniture, appliances, and the like) and moving them around, presumably loading them into vehicles and then unloading them at the destination and putting them inside the new domicile. Apparently Carrie & I are some of the only people who actually think that, because the last few times we helped people "move," when we got to their place they hadn't actually packed their things into boxes. So instead of helping them "move" we helped them "pack." Those are two different things, people! Be honest/accurate when you ask for my help!

So, yeah, Steph had almost nothing packed up, so Carrie spent the whole time packing while I (along with other people who were there such as Melissa, Travis, Heather & her Chris, Cat without her Chris, and a girl named Stacy) moved what I could and helped pack what still needed to be packed.

We were done around 11:30, and then we came home all sweaty and gross. Carrie cleaned for a bit whilst I did my daily computer routine, then at 12:30 I went to MSMII and bought us each a 13-inch sammitch for lunch. Well, half of it was for lunch; the other half we saved until dinner. There was also, I believe, so Mario Kart around this time.

During the afternoon I completely cleaned off my desk while Carrie worked mostly on the kitchen and laundry. She started to feel bad and had some digestion problems later on in the afternoon. Boo! We played some more Mario Kart to help her feel better, and I actually nodded off a couple of times while driving but still managed to win. Fortunately Carrie was starting to feel a little better by the time I showered and got ready for Fools Play.

Fools Play was Revolution, and it was kind of a mess of a show, though very entertaining. Mr. Offensive (making his return after a long absence) was voted president at one point, until he was killed by Galvatron. A civil war broke out, the winner of which was shown by the most spectacular fireworks display. I won, and my "fireworks" display consisted of a jet getting super-heated by lasers (or something), catching a missile in mid-air, flying into an active volcano and shooting an alien spaceship with said missile, then outrunning the explosion (Konami-style) of the volcano only to be thrown into the sun, which then explodes. The jet then outruns the sun exploding (Konami-style). The exploding sun sets off a universal chain reaction that causes all of the stars in the universe to explode. This causes the universe to become unstable and it collapses in the big crunch (which the jet somehow doesn't become a part of), only to explode again in a 2nd Big Bang, which the jet outruns (Konami-style). Finally, after having destroyed and re-created the universe, the jet pilot says, "I did it."

We've been getting large audiences recently, and we think it's mostly due to some guy bringing a theater class to see us.

We went to Rib Eye afterwards, and Sandy & I got a table all to ourselves! I had the bacon expresswich, which was overpriced by about two dollars for what you actually get.

Then I drove home.

Few things are more entertaining than talking cats:

Of the Month: July '06

Link of the Month:
MONDO DADDYKIN
Do you remember a time in the late 60s when it seemed that almost every cartoon consisted of a group of teenagers who had an animal sidekick and solved mysteries, and were also in a band? Well, this website sure does, and amazingly it has managed to collect the albums that these cartoon bands released! Daddykin also has a large selection of albums from live-action shows that might as well have been cartoons, like the 60s Batman, and The Banana Splits, and The Bugaloos. Fascinating listening!

DVD of the Month:
Veronica Mars - Season 1
This was a no-brainer. I watched the heck outta this DVD set since Carrie bought it halfway through last month. It is my new favorite show. It lives up to all the hype. Wallace is my favorite character. Just watch the danged thing so I can talk to you about it!

Game of the Month:
Big Brain Academy
An "educational" game that tests your skills in five cognitive areas: calculation, identification, analyzation, memorization, and a spatial-relationship one (I forget what they call it). You are presented with a series of mini-games, and the better you do the bigger your brain is supposed to be. But where this game really shines is in the insane competitions that arise when played multi-player. Whoever solves the problem the quickest gets the most points, but if you get it wrong you lose the amount of points that you would have won had you been correct. The first person to reach a pre-determined set of points wins, and the person who fared worst in any given round gets to choose the mini-game for the next round. It is probably the most fun I've had doing multi-player DS.

Champion Dancer Wins Crappy Prize

Yesterday (Monday) Carrie & I woke up much later than we had wanted to, and so were forced to skip our morning showers. We drove to Starbucks where she bought coffee and we bought a sammitch to share, and then drove up to that weird part of Tacoma that's across the water from the rest of Tacoma and really shouldn't be Tacoma to pick up Carrie's dad so he could accompany us to the taping of Northwest Afternoon.

We got there a few minutes before 9:00, which was when we were supposed to be there, and there we joined the 12 other people from the Bead Factory group. Let's see if I can remember...
  • Brandy
  • Carly
  • Laura
  • Melissa
  • Travis
  • Gena
  • Viki
  • Leilani
  • Viki's sister
  • Viki's niece
  • Steph
  • Aaigh! I can't remember the last pareson. If it was you, I apologize very much.

Fisher Plaza (where KOMO 4 is based) has been much renovated since last I was there and now looks really nice.

At any rate, we went through the metal detector and down the huge freight elevator thing and eventually all the ladies were taken into the sound stage before the men, so Travis, Carrie's Dad, and I all had to sit way in the back while the lovely ladies were in the front.

The lead tech/audience wrangler guy asked for six volunteers for a competition, and after five other people (whom we didn't know) volunteered, Carly and Brandy loudly volunteered me. He ushered the six of us backstage and said that it was going to be a dance competition, which is what I expected; Carrie was in (and won) one of these a few years ago. She won a book that she sold online for $8.

All of the other people seemed terrified/embarrassed, so I went first and did my Bill Cosby dance. Everybody else just kinda generically swung limbs around (though one guy did shake his booty a little bit), but none of them really committed to it like I did, so of course when the audience was asked to cheer for the winner they cheered the loudest for me (and actually the side of the audience in which my wife and friends weren't sitting was just as loud... if not louder).

Anyway, the show was about sleeping problems, and both Steph and Carly asked pre-chosen questions. Meh, it was just an average Northwest Afternoon show. Afterwards we were ushered back into the freight elevator and as I was leaving a tech girl shoved some "free potato bites at Pizza Hut" coupons into my hand for being in the dance competition. Gee, thanks. That sucks.

So we all went back to the lobby and broke off into our little groups. Carrie's dad treated us to lunch at the Red Robin by the Sea-Tac Mall (or whatever the heck it's called nowadays), which was very nice of him. Then we drove him home, and I drove Carrie directly to the store and then got some coffee (which I would only accept if Lawrence made) for her.

I honestly remember very little of the rest of the afternoon, other than I ran a load of dishes.

I picked Carrie up around 5:00 and we made a snack tray with such things as carrots, spicy pickled green beans (very yum), string cheese, marinated tofu, and baby bells. We snacked while we played Mario Kart.

Lena's birthday party was that evening at 7:00, but around 6:00 we called Linnea to ask if it was okay if we came over early to help if they needed it. She seemed to welcome that idea, so we went and picked up Lawrence from Starbucks and drove to the Tarbets' house where Lena had her 4th birthday party. It was a lot of fun, even though there were some four-year-old attitude problems. A tonne of the Bead Babes were there, and we walked up the alley to Christine's house and got to see the inside of it (first time for me).

Eventually the party died down and it was just the Harrisses, the Tarbets, the Goukers, and Lawrence & Christine. Carrie demanded that Jay build a fire in their little outdoor fireplace pit thingy, and Jay made s'mores with it.

We left around 11:00 and took Lawrence back to his place before coming home and going to bed.
