There Can Be No "Ifs," "Ands," or "Buts." All Day Long: Pumpkin Guts!

カボチャ切り分けること

Yesterday (Monday) I ran a couple of errands in the morning. I went to Fred Meyer's to pick up some canned pumpkin, chocolate chips, and another bag of candy (in case we run out tonight); then I went to Safeway to get corned beef (which is kind of expensive); then I hit Sterino's to buy some punkins.

I picked up Carrie for lunch and made some Mandarin chicken. She took the car back to work, and in the afternoon I made a class handout and etched a couple more glasses (with footballs on them. Meh).

For din-dins Carrie made a really kick-ass salad with lots of salami, olives, and fresh mozzarella in it. We took it and some olive rolls down to the store and had a party-room picnic with Laura, which is always a lot of fun. Even though she only had a 20-minute break.

We left from there and went straight to the Lareau homestead, because the kids were carving their pumpkins and I was going to join them and carve mine there as well. I learned when I got there that they'd gutted their pumpkins the day before, and that "carving their pumpkins" meant drawing their faces on their pumpkins and then having Mark carve them for them. Ah, well.

I couldn't work out the logistics of what I wanted to do for my punkins this year, so I scratched my original plan and created something that I think is pretty amusing. Let me see if Blogger will let me upload a photo of it or not...

Well, kind of. Here is a small photo:

While there we also watched It's the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown on DVD (as well as the much lesser-known You're Not Elected, Charlie Brown).

After I finished the pumpkins and the kids went to bed, Carrie & I headed straight home where we made a gigantic pot of macaroni and cheese. Well, technically it was spaghetti and cheese sauce. But let's not split hairs, shall we?

Overall it was a really busy day; it seemed like I was constantly bouncing from one thing to the next. It was also a really, really cold day; it was in the upper 20s during the night, and I don't think it ever got into the 40s.

Also, completely coincidentally, two of my friends (both Brandy and Leia) called me to talk about Veronica Mars.

Bitching About Blogger

For some reason all weekend (and yesterday) Blogger was acting like an absolute bitch. It wouldn't let me upload photos. It wouldn't let me publish. It just wouldn't let me do anything. Therefore I'm writing this entry a day late (I post-dated it, though, so you can't tell... except for that I'm telling you right now).

Anyway, two days ago (Sunday), Fools Play practice was canceled, so I spent the whole day (pretty much) etching. I got three pairs of glasses completed, including a really awexome pair of skull-and-crossbones. There was nothing really on the TeleVision, so I ended up watching the lame Scooby-Doo movie, and then the not-nearly-so-lame Sleepy Hollow movie.

That evening I had dreams that were very much inspired by Sleepy Hollow, except that they weren't in the least bit creepy.

Tricks and/or Treats

Yesterday (Saturday) was notable in that it was the last Saturday before Halloween. Therefore it was Fools Play Trick or Treat! But more on that in une moment.

I etched some more glasses during the days, this time of four-leaf clovers. They look pretty durned cute, and they'd be especially cute if you were Irish. Or just liked to drink.

Y'know, pretty much from here on out until Thanksgiving I'm going to be writing that I etched a couple of glasses. I needs me some inventories!

I also made a last-minute run back to the hardware store to pick up some final supplies for my costume. Anybody who was at the show yesterday knows what it was, but for those of you who didn't see it, I ain't gwine t'spoil it yet.

Carrie went over to Lisa's in the apréz-noon to bead with her, whilst I didst finish up my costume. I cooked some potstickers for din-dins, and the very instant that I finished cooking them Carrie came home with a chicken satay wrap for me. So I let her eat the potstickers while I ate the wrap (which was, in the end, quite delicious).

Then it was on down to Fools Play for the big show. I took les photographs, so here are some highlights:

After the show we (almost) all went out to Rib Eye as per usual. I sat with Leia & Kedar and Mathias. What was unusual was that it took freakin' forever to get my food. I mean it. It took so long that they only charged me half price for it. Ridiculous. What's not so ridiculous is that Mathias gave me another present from Japan, a very strange (and very cool) diorama thing of Duke Togo, aka Golgo 13. It now sits proudly on the toy ledge above my monitor, watching me, cigar in hand, as I type.

Why, For My Costume, of Course

Yesterday (Friday) I took Carrie to work at 7:00 in the freakin' A.M.! That was way very early, especially considering that I hadn't fallen asleep until sometime around 2:00 in the A.M. So after I took her to work and got her a coffee, I came home and fell back asleep until 10:30.

Later in the morning I went to the hardware store (actually, two hardware stores). Why? Why, to buy supplies for my Halloween costume, of course! And, no, it's not a robot costume. You'll see... and be amazed.

Carrie had a rare Friday split-shift, and she basically slept the whole time. I walked down to the Schuck's Auto Supply on the corner and bought a new headlight to replace the one that burned out on the Toyota. I did it all myself and got my hands all covered in grease and grime like a real mechanic!

Then I went over to the Tarbet house really briefly to borrow a hacksaw. Why? Why, to make my Halloween costume, of course! You'll see... and be amazed.

I worked on the costume for the rest of the afternoon until I took Carrie back to the store. Then in the evening I watched Battlestar Galactica and Numb3rs before Carrie came back home.

Perchance to Dream

Okay, I've been having crazily vivid dreams all week long. So I'm gonna have to write them down now just so as not to forget about them.

This most recent one happened between 8:00 and 10:00 this morning. For some reason I was following the characters "Spinner" and "Toby" from the TeleVision show Degrassi The Next Generation. Degrassi the school existed about where the real Stadium High School exists. Well, it seems these two characters had been vaulting a fence near the school (in fact within sight of the school) and going to a marijuana den. Having followed them there and realizing what was going on, I attempted to vault the fence back outta there.

However, just then the owners of the property, a middle-aged couple, came walking back towards the property. I couldn't hide in time and they spotted me in their front yard (which had some walls within it for no reason). I lamely excused my presence by saying that I thought my dog had pooped somewhere in the yard, and I was looking for it so I could clean it up. I don't think they believed me, but they turned out to be incredibly pleasant and apparently saw that I was a trustworthy sort of fellow, so they began showing me around.

They first spread their arms wide, encompassing the whole front yard, and said, "This is the front garden." I noticed that off to the left a Polynesian-looking gardener was eying me suspiciously and dragging some cargo netting across an opening in some shrubbery that looked like it led to another garden area, no doubt where the pot plants were.

The woman, who now looked suspiciously like my capoeira instructor, continued the tour, walking right past and completely ignoring the pot den. She instead brought me to the edge of the hill that looked down onto Puget Sound. Their property dipped all the way to the edge of the water, and they'd built a fake beach down there (a tiny one). It was gorgeous. She brought me around to the other side where a wide, gentle stream emptied into the sound and was framed by stately, lazy willows bathed in golden sunlight. Even more beautiful! They were in the process of creating another beach just where the stream met the sound. As we were talking, the gardener re-appeared, eyed me suspiciously, got on a jet ski and sped off.

There were two out-buildings up on the hill overlooking these breathtaking vistas, and I inquired about them. The husband re-appeared and showed me the outsides of these. The first one was decorated Polynesian-style, and had a rather long staircase lead up to a small coffee bar with tons of flavored syrups up there. He said it wasn't done yet, but that it was indeed going to be a coffee bar.

The second building was more old-west in style, and had a sign that said something about it being a bank. It even had a fake counter in front. The wife then took back over and led me around the corner from the counter, where the building had a wide and tall opening and I was able to see that it was actually an enormous two-story library. I expressed my admiration. The wife jokingly said how when they'd visited their daughter at college they found it so strange that all of the daughter's books fit on one bookshelf. This was a lifetime of collecting books. She informed me that I could borrow anything I liked.

I found a sci-fi and fantasy section right by the door, but all it had were dozens of anthology books of Asimov's and Clarke's stories. I asked if they had any more anywhere else, and she said they might have more upstairs. So we went upstairs, which was packed with people. Evidently they were having some sort of a party. I quickly glanced through many of the shelves but didn't find any more sci-fi books. I did, however, look out all of the windows, which looked out through the golden willows at the lazy stream. Breathtaking.

The woman came back a couple of minutes later with a book for me (something with "Mice" in the title, though I can't remember specifically). She said she thought I'd enjoy it, and checked it out for me. I opened the front cover and, indeed, the return date was stamped on a card on the inside there, just like in a real library.

She went into a door and started down a long staircase that (I believe) went to an exit door at one of the two beaches I'd seen earlier. I thumbed though the book for a minute and then decided I might as well follow her.

When I got to the stairway doorway, however, I discovered that she was stopped about halfway down by my brother, who was asking her some questions about where some certain books were or something. She said he was welcome to look around, but that she didn't have time to show him herself. My brother then stated that it was very important that she answer, because this was a "police matter." I looked up and noticed that there was a man wearing a dark trenchcoat and a fedora standing on a balcony, menacingly overlooking my brother and the woman.

I backed away from the door and nonchalantly began reading the book, pretending that I hadn't heard. Evidently my brother was a DEA agent sent to bust the pot-growing operation on the property. I thought I had plausible deniability—I could plead ignorant about knowing there was pot on the premises. I thought that I should probably come up with a better excuse than my dog took a dump in their lawn, especially since I don't actually have a dog...

At this point I decided that, as nice as this couple had been to me, that if the law was gonna crack down on them then I needed to just leave before the shit hit the fan. So I went up and returned the book at the counter. The girl there seemed confused by the fact that it was just checked out moments before, but accepted it nonetheless. As I turned around to walk away I heard someone else say, "That was fast."

At this point my alarm went off, but I so wanted to see what happened next that I told it to go off in another fifteen minutes or so and went back to sleep.

Continuing: I figured for some reason that it wouldn't be safe to just try to walk out the front door. No doubt there was a swat team waiting to arrest all of the people leaving the pot den, or something. Fortunately on the roof of the library there was a gigantic hover disc.

Now here's where the dream started to break down. There was some sort of indistinct action scene involving me vs my brother, and in the end I ended up getting injured. My ribs, I think, and there was blood involved. The problem was I didn't know exactly what had happened because my dream people skipped right over all of the details. All I knew was there was I had had to hide next to the Polynesian-looking outbuilding from the fedora-wearing detectives and now I was hurt. So my solution was to climb back up the outside of the library to get one of the flying discs (now there were several, and they weren't any bigger than a manhole cover). I used it to fly myself to the hospital, which was conveniently just around the corner. My dream people started to try to initiate a chase sequence a-la that scene in The Incredibles where the people in those discs are chasing Dash around. But they decided it wasn't a good idea or something, because it was quickly dropped and I made my way to the hospital with little incident (all that happened was I had to figure out that you had to tilt the hover disc in the opposite direction that you wanted it to go; very counter-intuitive).

At this point I woke up again, and grudgingly decided to wake up. My dream was no longer taking place at the completely awesome property that my dream people had designed, and I had escaped from the DEA agents, so there seemed little point in continuing.

Do you remember that one time when the croud was chanting my name, and I used my strength to rip my blouse?

Yesterday (Wednesday) was a very normal day for the first half, except for that I went to the Fred Meyer in the morning to buy about ten bucks' worth of stuff, including ground chicken, which will come in handy later in this story.

I spent much of the afternoon cleaning (i.e., dishes), then after Carrie came home from work (well, from the Y) we both cleaned up quite a bit. Around, oh, 6:30 or 7:00 Lawrence came over to hang out and we played some Mario Kart. Geoff called and said he was coming as well.

While we waited for Geoff to show up Carrie cooked din-dins: turkey burgers! With a salad with home-made bleu cheese dressing! And cooked vegetables with bacon bits! It was all hella good. Holla.

Then we all four (Geoff showed up right after the food was ready and joined in) sat around and watched Nacho Libre. There were some parts of the movie that Geoff just couldn't watch. He actually buried his head in the couch and screamed, "Nooo! Noooo!" He loved it. We all thought it was fantastic.

After the movie Geoff took Lawrence home and then (I assume) headed home himself. Carrie & I went to bed shortly thereafter.

日本からの事

Yesterday (Tuesday) after I brought Carrie home for her split-shift and made some perogies (with a lovely, creamy parmesan/bleu sauce), I went to Chéz Targét and picked up my very own copy of Nacho Libre (Widescreen Special Collector's Edition). From there I drove straight up to Sandy & Mathias's apartment in Seattle to do the hanging out with them!

Sandy was the only one home on account of Mathais working, so she showed off all of the metric tonne of stuff they brought home from Japan. She also gave me some stuffs: This really cute robot keychain thing that I promptly attached to my murse, some cool new stylusses (styli?) for the DS, as well as letting me take her old DS for Carrie (Sandy got a new DS Lite in Japan).

We went and picked up Mathias from work and drove to his brother's place, but he and Cambry were out at WinCo Foods and not home. So to pass the time we went and had din-dins at this little hole-in-the-wall type of place called "Athens" or something like that. It was mostly Italian food with a smattering of Greek options. I had canneloni. It was good!

After din-dins we went back to Josiah's place so S&M could give the two of them their presents from Japan. I played with the cute, $1,200 kitty and left around 8:15 so I could get home in time for the new episode of Veronica Mars.

Midnight was fast approaching and Carrie still hadn't come home from teaching class. Finally she called me to pick both her and Carly up and take both of them home (to their respective homes). She said she was starving, so I brought along my leftover pasta for the car ride. Carrie devoured it while we took Carly back to her house, then the two of us came back to our house where I showed off the goodies I was given from Japan.

Portland Shopping (Sans Me)

Yesterday (Sunday) there was no practice because basically I was the only person who would have been able to make the whole thing anyway.

Yesterday was also Carrie's annual Portland shopping day, where she and at least one other Bead Babe go down to the cute shopping area in Portland and shop around. This year Melissa and Jen went with her, and they were supposed to meet up with Gretchen and Nicole down there (though they only ended up meeting up with Gretchen; Nicole's cell phone died and she was unable to find Carrie & crew).

I did some cleaning, and I managed to play that Toribash game in such a way that I tore my opponent in half using my crotch. I couldn't for the life of me re-create the circumstances (though I figured it out just this morning).

In the afternoon Geoffs came over and we hung out and watched cheap sci-fi movies, like Route 666 (which is actually very enjoyable, mostly because of the chemistry between all the main players).

After Geoffs left I made chocolate chip pumpkin cookies. They're really good, but the pumpkin makes them have a very spongy consistency, almost more like cake than cookies.

Carrie finally came home around 8:00 in the PM, and she brought with her some Burgerville burgers (which is good, because I'd forgotten to eat dinner what with making the cookies and all). There was a marathon of Heroes on, so I got to see the one-half of an episode that I'd missed a couple of weeks ago.

Reload

I haven't updated in a few days! How unlike me. Tell you the truth, even though a whole bunch of big stuff happened last week, it was basically a wash. I just felt all exhausted and beat up for some unknown reason. Not enough potassium, perhaps?

Anyway, I don't feel like going back and re-capping the week, so I'll just move forward. Ever forward.

Yesterday (Saturday) Carrie & I worked on our crafts for most of the day. She made jewelry and I etched some glass. We watched that Orange County movie starring Jack Black and Tom Hanks's kid... and everybody else in Hollywood. We had no idea that it was so chock-full of cameos. It was pretty funny, too.

I shaved and showered and got ready. Carrie made me a chicken sammitch for din-dins. It was quite excellent. Then I went down to Fools Play, which was the annual "Haunted House" episode. Sandy & Mathias were back from Japan and in the audience! Hooray! I missed them.

Afterwards almost everybody went out to the Rib Eye (except Leia & Kedar and Geoff). I mostly hung out with Tea and Cupcakeface, and listened to tales of Japan from S&M.

I'll re-start blogging regularly tomorrow.

Inexplicable Exhaustion

For some reason yesterday (Tuesday) I was just exhausted all day. I got enough sleep (I think), but I guess it wasn't very good sleep, eh?

Laura took us out to lunch at E-9, which was so very nice of her! She said it was her way of paying us back for cooking Monday dinners for her. Laura had the whole day off (she had neither school nor work), so after lunch she came back to the house where she fused sterling and beaded with Carrie. She recently finished Veronica Mars - The Complete First Season, so we put on the first disc of Veronica Mars - The Complete Second Season and watched the whole thing... plus an episode on the 2nd disc. At some point in the afternoon I crashed on the gold chair in the living room and slept quite a bit. Still don't know why I was so tired.

I made us all some potstickers for din-dins, and then I took Carrie back to the store to teach her class and then took Laura (and our old TeleVision that I'd dug out of the garage to give to her as a replacement for her B&W TeleVison) to her house.

In the evening I watched a rather good episode of Veronica Mars season 3. I enjoyed it despite the fact that neither Wallace nor Mac were in it. Carly brought Carrie home so I didn't have to go pick her up.

I'm hoping that I can be a little bit more awake today.

Faking It

Yesterday (Monday) carrie decided to take coffee grounds and Half & Half to work with her and make some coffee there, so I didn't have to go to Starbucks to buy her any!

After lunch (Mandarin chicken), Carrie actually stayed at home and the two of us worked on a very cool project. See, Viki teaches a "Business of Jewelry" class. She wanted to have an example of promotional materials for a jewelry business, but didn't want to go through the trouble of using a real business. So she had me and Carrie make up a fake company for her. Carrie decided to call it "Bliss" by Sarah Vetch. I designed a logo, business card, and an informational folder with a bio, contact sheet, etc. It was really fun!

I went to Fred Meyer to deposit Carrie's paycheck and also to buy salami, olives, and cat food. Laura came over for din-dins again. Carrie baked the Trader Joe's pizzas and made a really, really excellent salad with havarti and the salami & olives in it (though not the cat food that I'd also bought). She also whipped up a home-made bleu cheese dressing (well, technically it was gorgonzola) and a lemon vinaigrette dressing.

In the evening she went and hung out with Travis Medak, who is back in town for an unspecified amount of time. I watched a new episode of Heroes and dinked around on teh intarwebs until she came home again.

Unexpected Hangouts

Yesterday (Sunday) was a day of unexpected hangouts. First off, we slept in until 10:00, when Linnea called to say she was going to Trader Joes and asked if we wanted to come. Sure! So she picked us up, which caused some problems because Baby Eva absolutely did not want us in the car with her (especially not me). Carrie could kind of calm her by doing some peek-a-boo, but that baby was pretty durned upset by our presences in her car.

At Trader Joe's we ran into Alicia Lawver. Hadn't seen her since Ed's party several months ago, so that was coo'.

Lena came home with us while Linnea went home with the Baby Eva. For lunch we had some of the beef & vegetable soup that Carrie had made the night before, and watched A Charlie Brown Christmas at Lena's request (we don't have Great Pumpkin, which would have been much more appropriate).

On the way to Fools Play practice there were three accidents before I even got on the freeway. I was only 10-15 minutes late, though. Also at practice was Michael Tanner, back from Japan! He was plenny exhausted from flying and being awake for basically 24 hours, so he frequently dozed off during the course of practice.

After practice (which got out a half-hour early), I drove to the Outback Steakhouse where I met Carrie and her fambly for an impromptu dinner. None of them (except for Grandma K.) had seen my new hair before. I had a prime rib that was on the rare side of medium rare. Actually, it was basically just rare all the way through. Man, it was pretty tasty. Carrie had a really tasty "Cyclone Pasta."

After dinner there Carrie drove us back to the house where we cleaned while watching various TV. I watched a couple of episodes of Mythbusters and then a Discovery Atlas about Brazil (it had a secion about a capoeirista, Boa Gente) while doing dishes.

Then after running the dishwasher it was time for Batman and bed.

Monster Hunters

So yesterday (Saturday) Carrie & I slept in until 11:00. After getting ready, we drove up to Federal Way and took Carrie's Grandma out to lunch at this little pub place called Lolli's (we had a coupon in our Entertainment Book for it). I had a pretty good deli-style sammitch.

Catherine came over later in the afternoon, shortly before I had to leave for Fools Play. It was a new format, the introduction of the "Monster Hunters" characters. It went over pretty well. Afterwards, though, many of our regulars did not go out to the Rib Eye with us. I did get to hang out with Tea and Cupcakeface, though, so that was good.

Ambitious Costume Design

Yesterday (Friday) my mom stopped by around 10:45 to pick me up. It was the first time she'd seen my new haircut (although Susan had pre-warned her about it). We drove over to her friend's house in South Tacoma, where we attempted to figure out how to make my Halloween costume. This is my most ambitious costume evar, so it took quite some doing to figure out how to cut the fabric and everything like that.

For lunch we all went to The Rock, where everybody except me mum had the buffet. I probably almost ate the equivalent of an entire pizza.

Back to South Tacoma to continue working on the costume, and we only managed to finish just about half of the sewing. We're going to meet up again next week to finish the rest, but then there's the whole interior framework left to construct! Ambitious.

Shortly after me mum brought me back home I went and picked up Carrie from work. We didn't go out or do anything Friday night; we just stayed at home and relaxed, which was nice in iteslf. I caught up on this season of Battlestar Galactica. Brandy called to say she'd found a really cool candy shop that sold impossible-to-eat candy cigarettes in it. Carrie & I watched the last half of the Heroes episode I missed on Monday, and then we watched a new episode of Numb3rs. We then spent the next twelve hours (almost) in bed.

Things Worthwhile

Yesterday (Thursday) I had a real hard time doing anything really worthwhile. I have a lot of important projects hovering around me, but still I just couldn't get myself to do any valuable work on any of them. I dunno.

After I took Carrie to work, though, I went to Capoeira and it was very, very good. I didn't start to get those black spots in the corner of my vision until almost all the way through class, and I didn't have to take a 15-minute break or anything either. We started training falls so that when your leg is swept out from under you, you won't hurt yourself too awfully badly. The falls we practiced all invovled falling to the side in "negativa" position with both hands on the ground. After I got home from class I could barely move my wrists, my forearms were so worn out. Is good! I like.

Shortly after I got home Carrie called me and had me print off an old, obsolete class handout (the extra-row right angle weave one) for one of her students who wanted to learn how to do that. I drove it down to the store and they were very appreciative.

So I guess that was a little bit worthwhile.

Be sure to watch the Pleaseeasaur video I posted below!

Season Finale: Part 2 of 3

Yesterday (Wednesday) morning I woke up and my right ear was completely plugged up. I dunno what's goin' on, but it's plenny annoying. My wax factory is on overload mode or something. Maybe if'n I jes leave it alone fer awhile.

Anyway, in the morning I went out and did, um, research for my Halloween costume. It should be pretty cool, although I'm having some trouble with the blueprints for the interior framework. I might have to get Jay involved in the process. I've already sequestered my mom to help with the sewing part. Yikes! Speaking of sewing, in the afternoon I went to JoAnne's and bought a whole bunch of fabric for the costume.

I'm pretty durned excited about it.

After I picked Carrie up from work she decided she wanted to make chicken tacos for dinner. Sounded good to me! She walked down to the Neighborhood Market only to discover that they had no ground chicken. So instead she decided to make a meal from her childhood: Seafood Nachos. There is apparently a chain of mexican restaurants (I forget what it's called, and I'm not sure that it ever made it west of the rockies) Carrie went to frequently as a child, and she decided to try to re-create her favorite meal from that place.

I went and picked up Lawrence and brought him back, and the two of us played some Mario Kart: Double Dash while we waited for the nachos. The nachos ended up being really, really good. We ate them while drinking wine and watching The Rundown. Good times. Then we had some more wine and more Mario Kart. Then it was time for some more wine and Lawrence & Carrie sang some karaoke (see, the two of them can actually sing, so it's good that I didn't also get invovled).

Laura and her roommate Caitlin came over (and brought cookies) just after 10:00 and we all watched part two of the season finalé of Project Runway. Christine didn't join us like she did last week because she'd just gotten back into town after being down in California for a few days, so she was plenny tired.

Laura & Caitlin took Lawrence back to his apartment. It was fun having peoples over! I like it, and now that I'm getting better about keeping abreast of the messes in the house, it's easier to do with more frequency. Good for me!

That is Not Allowed—That is in the Rules, That is Not Allowed

Okay, so yesterday (Tuesday) morning Carrie & I were getting ready as usual. It was a cold day, so I went out to warm up the car a few minutes before Carrie came out. When she got in the car with me she told me that when I went to Fred Meyer to deposit my paycheck I should pick up some carpet cleaner, because right when she was about to leave the house she picked up a bottle of Gatorade and (due to her not having correctly screwed on the cap) dropped it all over the floor.

See, Carrie has this strange inability to correctly screw caps on bottles of things. Frequently I'll come across bottles whose caps are slightly askew. It's strange to me that she doesn't notice, but oh well.

So after I went for my morning walk I drove to Fred Meyer and deposited my check in the bonk, and then bought a big canister of carpet cleaner. I didn't use it right away because when Carrie had spilled the Gatorade she'd panicked a little and dumped a bottel of water on top of the spill, hoping to dilute it some. So I put my space-heater next to the moist carpet to dry it out and tested the carpet cleaner elswhere (it works even better than the last canister I bought).

Anyway, there was a scary moment later in the morning. I went into the laundry room to clean Fantastico's litter. As I'm bending down, pooper-scooper thing in hand, I notice out of the corner of my eye that a cat is outside on the back deck and walking towards the glass door. "Hmm..." I thought. "I wonder which outdoor cat friend that is?"

I looked up. It was Fantastico. I leapt to my feet and thew open the door, and she walked into the house like nothing strange was going on. Upon closer inspection I noticed that she'd managed to dislodge a corner of the screen on the upper half of the door, and had apparently just jumped outside through that. I fixed the screen as best I could and then sat Fantastico down to have a talk with her about how it was not okay to go outside without supervision. I don't think she was really listening to me, though.

The rest of the day was much less eventful. Carrie had a split-shift, and we ate a whole mess of the leftover spaghetti for lunch. But there's still a tonne of it left. She went down and put another jewelry piece at Sonya's then took a nap while I worked. I made pizzas for din-dins and then took her to the store so she could teach her class.

In the evening I watched the new episode of Veronica Mars. I've decided that I don't like the new introduction. The mellower remix of the Dandy Warhol's song plus the sepia-toned, dissolving, posed still shots reminds me way too much of Law & Order's introduction. It just seems fake to me. I don't like it.

The episode was very good, though.

Not Done Hanging Out

Yesterday (Monday) I got my morning routine pretty much down:
  • Drop off Carrie
  • Take her some coffee
  • Walk a mile
  • Stretch (and do some pushups or something like that
  • Put away the clean dishes from the dishwasher
  • Clean the kitty litter
  • Shower

I'm not sure exactly where breakfast will come in to play. Yesterday it was before my shower. Today (Tuesday) was a little screwy because immediately after my walk I went to the bank at Fred Meyer's and also bought some carpet cleaner (I'll tell that story tomorrow), then ate breakfast as soon as I got home.

But anyway... Carrie didn't come home for lunch because she had a meeting with Viki at Primo Grill. So I went to Target and bought some new friends:

I totally, totally think they're the cutest things EVAR! I knew about them because Taisha bought the Ghosty for Mike, and I saw it when I went over to his place for practice. I had to have it for myself!

Carrie also became instantly enamoured with them when she came home. So much so that she immediately grabbed Ghosty and took a nap in the bedroom with him (she'd kinda had a crappy headache all day).

After a showt while we (mostly she) started cooking an awesome sausage-tomato sauce with onions, mushrooms, garlic, and red wine. At around 5:20 Laura came over, and the three of us enjoyed a scruptious meal of pasta with that sauce, as well as some focaccia and mozarella salad.

Unfortunately Laura had to go to work at 6:00, and so Carrie drove her. When Carrie came back she expressed that she still felt like hanging out with people. So she went and got Lawrence. When they got back I was watching the beginning of the 3-hour version of David Lynch's Dune, which Lawrence could quote just as well as Geoff ("Put your hand inside the box." "What's in the box?" "Pain."). And after he ate his fill of dinner, Lawrence played each of us a full game of Mario Kart Double Dash (around 1 hour and 45 minutes total). Then we watched the last ten minutes of Dune ("I will kill him!") and most of Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory before we took him on back to his apartment.

Ah Kint Heer Yoo!

Yesterday (Sunday) it was my turn to feel as sleepy as Carrie did on Saturday. For some reason when I woke up my right ear was completely plugged up. I produce more ear wax than the average Joe, but this was ridiculous. I was having trouble hearing all day.

We went to Trader Joe's in the morning to stock up on foodstuffs. I left for Fools Play practice at 12:30, but I didn't give myself enough time to make a lunch. Luckily, Carrie made one I could take with me! It was salami wrapped around cheese, crackers, and grapes. I ate it in the car on the way up to my brother's place.

We worked out more of the kinks of our upcoming Fools Play Monster Hunters format, so that should be a good show. Check it out this Saturday! Or die in a fire!

When I got home after practice my fatigue overtook me, and I fell to the sleep in the bedroom. Carrie made pork-fried rice for din-dins before she left for a store meeting. After the meeting she and Steph went over to babysit Heather's cat Bea. Lucky! There was nothing really on the TeleVision, so I futzed around on teh intarwebs until she got home.

Carrie made a tonne of jewelry this weekend. It's really cool stuff, too.

Not Mike at All... But a HIDEOUS ROBOT

Yesterday (Saturday) we slept in a little bit, partly to recover from the wedding funtimes the night before, and partly because it was just nice to sleep in. Carrie slept in even later than I did. In fact, after she woke up and moved into the living room, she decided to take a nap.

I was having trouble getting Blogger to upload all the wedding pictures correctly, so I ended up having to make my own thumbnails and upload it all myself. Kind of a pain, but not like I haven't ever done it before.

Around noon I went to MSM and bought a sammitch, then swung by Starbucks for some coffee for Carrie. We ate the Sammitch for lunch, then each of us got to work on our upcoming shows. Carrie made jewelry; I worked on designs for Thirsty Robots.

Then at 3:00 we packed up some cheese, grapes, and wine and drove over to Nicole's folks' house, where she had some bread and brie and kiwi and such yummies. We had a picnic out on their front deck, which has the MOST spectacular view of the Tacoma Narrows. Next time I go over there (though who knows when that'll be), I'll have to bring my camera. It's just a perfect side-view of the Narrows bridge(s). Anyway, it was fun hanging out with Nicole. She told a great story about how her cat, Chester, adopted its own cat.

We drove back home in time for me to take a shower (which only takes a fraction of the time it used to) and get ready to go to Fools Play. Carrie, meanwhile, walked over to Linnea's to make cookies. When I was just about to leave, she called me and had me drive a biscuit cutter over to the Tarbet house so they could more easily cut out the cookie dough. Then I continued straight on to Fools Play.

It was Fools Play Hideous Robot. The audience practically gave me a standing ovation when I came out with my new hair. It was a really, really fun show, in which Mike turned out to be the hideous robot. We killed him with a combination of bees, papercuts, baseballs, and Socker Bopper Sword & Shield.

Afterwards we all went out to Rib Eye as usual. I sat with Leia & Kedar, and also Zoe Weith (who was at the show without Jason... she was also at the wedding without Jason, but both times he had a legitimate excuse). Zoe left after ordering and picked Jason up from Harlequin, and so he hung out with us as well. I learned that Leia used to show animals at the fairs. Chickens and Pigs. She was some sorta junior champion. I had no idea! That's pretty cool.

I was getting really tired really quickly, so immediately after I ate I said my goodbyes to everybody (including Brandy, who is flying back to New York as I type this) and left. Everybody complimented me on my new hairstyle. I think Mike and Taisha probably had the most trouble with it, but that's just because they were SO used to my long hair. Taisha had a good comment in that now I looked "Geek-hot," like Giles in Buffy, or that handler guy in Dark Angel. Ed said I looked like a bonafide grownup. Cupcake face expressed disappointment in not being able to braid it anymore, but said it looked really good. So overall, a rousing success.

...After

Look at this post for a comparison.

Response has been overwhelmingly positive. About the only negative thing that someone (Cupcake Face) said was that she was sad she wouldn't be able to braid my hair anymore. But then she quickly added that I looked really good.

Those Crazy Kids

Yesterday (Friday) was an even bigger day than Thursday! Let's see what all I can remember (there's a lot to remember).

In the morning I went to Target and bought myself a snazzy new outfit. When I tried it on and looked at myself in the dressing-room mirror, I actually exclaimed, "I look like a real person!"

From Target I went to World Market with the express purpose of buying three things: a bottle of wine, a wine bag, and some matching wrapping paper. The bottle of wine was easy to find, although on the way to the register I found another bottle that looked even better, so I switched 'em (the one I ended up buying had "Fuego" in the name and the label was all covered in photographed flames—very cool). Much to my shock, though, World Market had no wine bags! I hadn't even though about looking for them when I was at Chez Targét, because I figured I was going to World Market and they were bound to have 'em there. Whoops!

I went to the store at noon and grabbed Carrie and Jen, and the three of us went to Taco Del Mar for lunch. It was the one where Nyki works, but unfortunately she wasn't working right then (the girl behind the counter also really wished she were there, because she needed an extra hand). I had a couple of fish tacos, which are so good and gloopy there.

After taking Jen & Carrie back to the store I struck out in seach of a wine bag and matching wrapping paper. I completely struck out at Big Lots. But then I hit the dollar store near the Safeway on 6th (west of Pearl), and lucked out there. I found this really cool red-and-black, shiny wine gift bag, so I bought some shiny red wrapping paper to go with it. The gift bag had black velvety handles, and when I got home I discovered to my delight that we had some matching black velvety ribbon in with our wrapping paper! I did a professional wrapping job and bundled it up in the black velvet ribbon and they matched perfectly.

All day, whenever I was home, I was continuing to make the CDs for the wedding. Just cranking them out one after the other. Finally I was done with them at almost 3:00. I was s'posed to bring them to the Slovenian Hall (the reception space). Right before I was about to leave, Carrie called me to tell me that Iwe were also s'posed to pick up this big, awkward sound system from the store and bring that to the Hall (nobody told us we were s'posed to do this until just about right before Carrie called me to tell me we were s'posed to do this—not the best planning on that part). So I bundled the CDs into the car and drove to the store, where Carrie helped me lift the awkward sound system into the backseat. She climbed in the car and I drove her to the Bartell's so she could buy makeup and some other stuff. Leaving her there, I continued on to the Hall where I unloaded the CDs and the sound system. As I was leaving Cat & Heather showed up, so I also helped them carry in some clothes. I then excused myself, saying, "I have to go now; I abandonded Carrie at the Bartell's."

I swung back and picked her up. We went home and got all prettified. I had to swing back to the Bartell's to buy some shoe inserts for Carrie's too-large shoes.

Then at 5:00 we went down to the waterfront park to be somehow involved in pictures, only to discover that nobody was actually there except for Travis and Chris Gouker. Weird. Melissa wasn't answering her phone, so we called Brandy, who said they were all up the road a bit at the park on the other side of the Silver Cloud Inn. Except that the way Brandy speaks it sounded like she was saying "Solar Cloud End," which was very confusing to me, but Carrie got it. Unfortunately Carrie's shoes ended up being so uncomfortable that she wouldn't be able to walk the distance, so I ran back to the car and got her comfortable shoes for her. We met up with everybody in time for Carrie to be involved in a picture, so it all worked out okay. Just would have been nice if we had been told where we were actually to go, instead of being told to go to the wrong place. Ah, well.

The whole procession of the wedding party walked back to the park where the wedding was taking place (except for Heather and Cat and Melissa, who slipped into the Silver Cloud Inn's bathroom). I staked out my place next to the red carpet, and as guests arrived I even handed out some programs here and there.

Eventually the wedding started, and guess who was the first person to walk down the aisle? None other than my very own Carrie! Carrie, Brandy, and some other girls were "flower girls," who came down one at a time and added a flower to the big arch in the middle of the ceremony area. After the flower girls were the bridesmaids, Melissa and Cat, and then the mothers escorted by the groomsmen, and then finally Heather and Jim.

The ceremony was pretty short, and very cute because CJ of Gateway to India was the officiant. At one point they had to pause for half a minute because a GIGANTIC jet flew directly overhead. It was very funny, everybody looking up and all.

After the wedding Geoff and Brandy got in our car and we drove the two blocks to the Slovenian Hall for the reception. It was a pretty standard wedding reception. Geoff MC'd it. It had a very glitchy powepoint slide show that kept on popping up a blank blue screen, and then Chris would have to press a button on the GIGANTIC laptop to have it keep going.

Dinner was buffet-style. There were several types of pastas, but I loaded up on so many olives that I couldn't finish my pasta. There was also carrot cake, which is one of my favoritest cakes of them all. Eventually some minimal dancing happened, but by that time the only people left were the Bead Factory family, the Lovejoys, and the Weiths (except for Jason, who had to be at school or something; Zoe was there, though).

After all that I went with Carrie, Jen, and Carly to The Spar for some beer (I only had one, 'cause I was driving later). Christine and Lawrence came and joined us, and we finally got to meet Jen's significant other, Pete. He seems a very cool guy, so Jen has my permission to continue the relationship (lucky thing, that is).

After a couple hours of that, we drove Carly back to her car and headed home ourselves.

Here are some of the photos that I took of the event. Partake and Enjoy!

Ch-Ch-Changes

So yesterday (Thursday) was quite a big, big day for me. I won't tell you why until Sunday, though (ha-ha-haaaaa). It was a basically regular morning, except that Carrie came home for her split-shift an hour early, around 11:30.

At noon I drove down to the Tacoma Mall to go to an appointment. They were doing frakking construction on the main road leading to the mall, so I actually had to drive all the way around it to get where I wanted to go.

Brandy called me to ask if I wanted to join her and Laura at Gateway to India for lunch. I stopped off at home to see Carrie first, then I went down and saw them. Hooray! I'm glad Brandy's back in town for a few days.

I only stayed a few minutes (maybe ten at the most), because Carrie & I were going over to Linnea's to hang out with her and the kids for a while. That was fun; I worked with Lena on her counting skillz. She thought it was amusing to skip from 2 to 6.

At 3:00 we went down to that little park on the Tacoma waterfront for Heather's rehearsal dinner. Carrie and Brandy are both actually in the wedding (briefly), but I'm not. However, I did get to stand-in for one of the girls who couldn't be there. It should be a fun wedding; I'm getting pretty excited for those crazy kids.

After the rehearsal we popped by the house real quick so Carrie could prettify herself for the class she was going to be teaching later in the evening. We then drove out to Point Defiance to meet the wedding people for the rehearsal dinner, which was a big barbeque picnic. I ate a hot dog AND a hamburger. It was too much food. Whoops!

I drove Carrie from the dinner straight to the store for her class. I went home and stretched a whole bunch, because I didn't want to be sore for Capoiera that evening. Capoeira was actually a lot of fun this time, although I've learned that I am not very good at all at pivoting. There was one jumping spin kick that I always ended up landing facing backwards. It was pretty funny. I'm pretty sore today, and I'll likely be even more sore tomorrow, but there is one really, really cool thing: I can reach down and touch my toes now! I haven't been able to do that since I was in junior high!

After Capoeira I watched the Ray Harryhausen classic 20 Million Miles to Earth. It is really some of his best work. Very inspirational, even 50 years later.

Periodically throughout the day whenever I had a spare moment, I worked on making copies of a CD for Heather. Many, many copies.

Carrie came home (Jen dropped her off) after class and made some "kitchen pasta" that turned out to be a stroganoff-style dish that was really, really tasty. That and a brownie-with-ice-cream dish rounded out the evening.

Season Finale: Part 1 of 3

Yesterday (Wednesday) was a pretty regular-type day. I made potstickers for lunch. Stuff like that.

I didn't have to pick Carrie up from work, though, because Christine brought her home. Why? Because we were all going to go to the Supermall so Carrie could find some shoes and Christine could find some shawl or wrap or something. Why did they need these new accessories? For Heather's upcoming wedding, of course!

Speaking of Heather, she stopped by and dropped off a stack of blank CDs so that I could help her make copies of her wedding CD. I should prolly get started on that, huh?

Anyway, the three of us went to Supermall. Carrie found new shoes. I got a new raglan-style shirt at Banana Republic (I do so like that store). Christine didn't find her item, but she sounded like she'd decided just to go buy some fabric and make it herself. That'ud be cool.

We drove back to the house and picked up Lawrence from his apartment on the way. He and Christine went back to Christine's house so she could change out of her work clothes. I went to Safeway so I could buy supplies for din-dins. Carrie made sauteéd kielbasa with onions and cabbage; a salad with endive, cranberries, feta cheese, and a lemon vineagrette; and open-faced tuna melt sammitches.

Christine and Lawrence got back to my house before I did. We all cooked and cracked some wine and ate while watching some Project Runway. You see, it was supposedly the season finalé last night. However, it turns out that the season finalé is really like three episodes long, so we won't find out until the 18th who actually won. Oh, well.

Laura called and so Carrie went and picked her up (in her pajamas). And even new-girl Jennifer came over! It was lots of goodtimes. The show ended at 11:00, so it was straight to bed after a minimum of clean-up.

Party-Room Picnic

Yesterday (Monday), turns out that Carrie was originally supposed to teach class in the evening, but it was cancelled. She was disappointed because she thought that tonight's (Tuesday's) class was the one that was going to be cancelled; now she has to teach during the season premiere of Veronica Mars.

Anyway, I went for a walk/jog in the morning, but I only got two blocks before this adorable kitten ran out onto the sidewalk to meet me. It kept on following me around, prancing happily and grabbing onto trees with its forearms. Very cute! I couldn't shake it, so I didn't want to cross any major streets for fear of cars. So instead I walked back home. It followed me. Into the house.

Fantastico was rather upset about that.

So I walked back to the place where I first saw it, and maneauvered so that a car was between it and me. Then I took off running and rounded the corner of the block. I'm reasonably certain it didn't see where I went. I took a different route back so as not to have it latch onto me again.

Don't get me wrong; I loved hanging out with it! It was too cute! But I feared for its safety, so I had to ditch it. It reminded me of the end of the first Spider-Man movie.

Ummm... yeah. I ate half of the remaining casserole for brunch, and Carrie ate the other half when she came home for lunch.

For dinner we did something unusual. Carrie made a whole bunch of chicken salad, plus a regular salad, and we packed all that up with some crackers and grapes and put it all in a picnic basket. We took it down to the Bead Factory and had a picnic with Laura in the party room. She was very excited, and the food was really good. We don't get to see Laura nearly as much as we used to now that she's back in school and only working when Carrie isn't.

I watched the 2nd episode of Heroes after we got back home. I've decided that I'll add that show to the very short list of primetime shows that I'll actually try to watch. Let's see:
Monday:
Heroes
Tuesday:
Veronica Mars
Wednesday:
Mythbusters
Thursday:

Friday:
Numb3rs
Does anybody know any good Thursday night shows?

One-Night-Only

Yesterday (Saturday) Carrie was still sick, but despite that at 9:00 I drove her to Cat's house so she could still be a part of Heather's Bachelorette Party. Yes, it started at 9:00 in the morning. And, yes, Carrie was home around 2:30 in the afternoon. "What kind of Bachelorette Party is that?" you ask? Heather's kind! Now STFU!

Sorry. Um... the party wore Carrie out, so she was too tired/sick to come to me to Fools Play. She doesn't usually come to Fools Play, though, so why should this week be any different? Because this week was a one-night-only special guest performance by Michael Tanner the Green Fool! Yes, he was up from California, but (literally) only for 24 hours. His plane got in around 2:00 in the afternoon yesterday, and he, Sandy, and Mathias are flying to Japan around 2:00 in the aftenroon today.

The audience was nice and packed, and because Ed was performing as well we got to do some stuff we hadn't done in quite a while, such as Professor Horace and Cecil present Science Made Amusing and The Vaudevillians. It was a really fun show. It ran a half-hour long, but nobody cared at all. 'Twas good, 'twas.

Afterwards pretty much everybody went out to Rib Eye. I sat with Amber, my brother, and Tiare. They talked about the Suicide Girls burlesque show they'd all gone to a couple weeks ago. At one point Cupcake Face braided my hair (which is why I started growing it long in the first place, so girls would wanna play with it), and when it got around how soft my hands were several of the girls all copped a feel on them. One said that my wife was "a very lucky woman."

Anyway. I stayed out later than usual. When I called Carrie to tell her I was coming home she was really out of it. She was trying to tell me something about "that desert you make" but she was incoherent and she knew she was incoherent, so she was frustrated. I told her just to go back to sleep, and indeed she was completely zonked out by the time I got home.
