Oh yeah... right...

I'm still here, I'm still here. These last couple o' weeks have been crazy-go-nutz, though. I've just decided to throw my hands up and re-start writing on this site tomorrow, the start of March. So look for my monthly "of the month" update, and then after that I'll try to get back into the swing of this.

Erin go Bye-Bye Now

Yesterday (Sunday) after I worked from home all day, Carrie & I went over to the Tarbet homestead where they were throwing a good-bye party for our friend Erin, who was heading back to Nu Yoke after having spent a week here in the Pyoojit Sound area. It was a pretty good time; lots of Bead Babes hanging around, Lawrence showed up later and played some music, and Lena helped Carrie with the drinks. Carrie & I both got the headaches, though, which we could've done without.

Carrie & Trevor went and watched The Apprentice from 9:00 to 10:00, and by the time they came back the party was basically over, so we drove Trevor back to his house and then went home ourselves.

I Told Carrie...

...that I wanted to redecorate our bedroom so that it looked like this:

But she said I couldn't. She said that if we ever have a kids, I could make their bedroom look like that. But then I still won't be able to sleep in it!

See all of this stuff here.

Digging [Pronoun] Graves

So on Saturday Carrie had to work due to the Bead Factory's pearl sale (it's going on all week—go check it out if'n you need freshwater pearls). In the later afternoon, though, I went down to the store to pick someone up. Not Carrie! One of the other Bead Babes was feeling horribly sick, so I brought her back to my place so she could sleep on the couch (she didn't have her car with her).

I picked Carrie up shortly before I left for Fools Play. It was a another co-show, this time with the Taisha-trained "Digging Our Graves Improv," four junior-high-aged people (hey, I started doing improv when I was fifteen, so it's not like I think they're too young or anything). It was a very funny show, and I think most, if not all of them enjoyed it thoroughly. One of them was jumping up and down backstage because he was so excited about how well it went.

After the show I met Lisa, who has one of the coolest tattoos I've ever seen: Totoro, Chu-Totoro, and Chibi-Totoro! Totoro is holding an umbrella, Chu-Totoro is playing a flute-like instrument, and Chibi-Totoro has a little branch with a leaf on it.

SOOOO COOOOL.

Covered [preposition] Bees

So last night (Friday), Fools Play actually had a show! I know, weird, but we went down to Olympia to join Covered... hold on, let me go look up the proper preposition. I can never remember whether it is "with" or "in" or... according to their MySpace page, they're called "Covered in Bees!"

Traffic on the way down was unbelievably ungodly, so most of us got to Capital High School only moments before the show started. I, on the other hand, arrived about one scene late. Fortunately I was able to join the end of the second scene.

'Twas an enjoyable show, despite Esa taking a rather scary header off of the stage and landing on his face. Fortunately the only injury he suffered was a mildly skinned elbow.

Afterwards there was some Red Robin action with upwards of 15 people. I hadn't been to that Red Robin in a couple of years now.

I Make You Look Bad!

If you know me, you prolly know that I like Valentine's Day. I approach it a lot like it was approached in elementary school; I give Valentines to everybody! As a side bonus, I makes most other guys look bad. I don't see how any guy can hate Valentine's Day. Sure, I agree that you shouldn't need a holiday as an excuse to express how you feel about significant others. But why the Hell wouldn't you take advantage of an already-existing excuse?

On the way to work I bought some flowers for my boss and co-worker. I also bought some for Carrie, and I had them sitting on the front seat of the car when I picked her up for lunch.

When I came back to pick her up from work I brought little hand-made heart Valentines for all of the Bead Babes who were working at the time.

On a non-romantic note, I went to Fred Meyer in the afternoon and bought toilet paper. But I also bought some iced cream for Carrie for a Valentine treat, so that made up for the toilet paper, right?

Carrie made fajita fixin's for dinner, and we just had a very mellow, low-key Valentine's Day.

Busy, Busy, Busy!

Yesterday (Monday) I sat down and figured out all of the stuff that was going on this week, and all of the work I needed to get done. This is going to be a very busy week, so please bear with me.

I Beat Her Home For Once

Yesterday (Saturday), even though we wanted to get up much earlier, Carrie & I ended up sleeping in until 11:30. After getting up and briefly getting ready, we went to Target to do some gift shopping for a certain someone whose birthday is today (Sunday).

Right as we were leaving Target I felt a sudden headache coming on, and I could tell it was gonna be a bad'un. So we came back home and I slammed some Tylenol and sat down on the couch whilst Carrie heated up some chicken dumpling soup for me for lunch.

Around 2:30 Carrie went over to the Tarbet house and picked up Lena so that the two of them could go to the airport and collect the arriving-from-New-York Erin Miner! Hooray! She's in town for a week, which is very cool. She's staying at the Tarbet house, just a couple of blocks up and a couple of blocks over, so I'm sure I'll see her a couple of times before she has to go back. When I talked to Brandy a couple of days ago she was a little upset that she and Erin didn't end up being back in T-Town at the same time (Erin is a whole month late).

I dozed and tried to deal with my headache pretty much all afternoon. I took a shower and got myself all prettified. Carrie came back shortly before 5:00, and I ate a big sushi platter for din-dins. Michael picked me up so that Carrie could have a car.

We went down to Fools Play, which was the Valentine's Day Special. I was playing for some guy named Blake. It was our first-ever performance of Strip Club Sub: The Next Generation (SCS:TNG). It went over pretty well. Mike was playing for Amanda, and he won due to some very suspicious math (4.5 + 2 does not equal eleven in my book, but whatever), so Amanda chose to go on her date with him. This was the first Valentine's Day Special in which we had a camera and actually got to film the date (Megan brought her camera, bless her) and it actually worked. The results were pretty funny: Mike & Amanda went to a drive-through, where Mike tried to order a "Black Angus Shake." Then they went to Amanda's apartment, where Tia & Tim were. Then, during a "romantic" walk through the park, Tia (who was supposed to be dressed as a yeti) attacked so that Mike could chase her off and look like a hero to Amanda.

There was some problem with the vertical tracking on the monitor during playback, but it didn't take too much away from the experience. After the show I gave out a handful of hand-made valentines to the girls there.

After we were done tearing down we three (Me, Mike, and Amanda) went and picked up Tia & Tim and we five went to the Rib Eye to do the hanging out with the other people there. Because not EVERYBODY would fit in the car, Mike took Tia, Tim, & Amanda back to their apartment first, then came back and took me to my house and Taisha on up to his apartment.

For once (and even though I got home much later than I usually do) I actually beat Carrie home by about five minutes! Why? Because whilst I was out Fools Playing, she, Erin, and Carly went to this bar way out in Enumclaw to dance to The Boinkers! She said it was a lot of fun, although apparently towards the end some crap went down with police and liquor board. But it thankfully did not affect the trio of Bead Babes, and they all made it home safely.

Now everybody go wish Laura a happy birthday!

Surprise Dance

Yesterday (Friday) Carrie actually had most of the day off, so she drove me to work and then came and picked me up so that she would have a car.

At 6:00 in the evening Carrie & I went down to Barefoot Studios where we joined Christine, Jamie, Jen, and Pete in surprising Steph by taking her swing dancing class! It was a whole lots of fun, and she was very excited to have us all there. If I could actually spare $50 a month, I would totally go every week. Well, 6:00 on a Friday is not always a convenient time, so maybe I wouldn't. But anyway, we all had a fun time.

Why did we do this, anyway? Because today (Saturday) is Steph's birthday! Happy birthday!

After the class all of us headed over to The Parkway Tavern for dinner and drinking. That was also a lot of fun, although Carrie had to leave about an hour into it to go back to work of all places! Steph & Jamie left a little bit after that, so then I just hung out with Christine, Jen, and Pete for a couple of hours. We played pool (Pete & I lost because Jen is freakishly good at Pool). Lawrence showed up at the end, and then Christine drove me home where Carrie was already in bed.

It was a really good way to celebrate the fact that I hadn't had surgery.

Yeah, About That...

Well, my surgery got postponed until later, so nothing invasive/cutting was done to my body. I am very glad about that.

We'll get back to that in a moment, though. In the morning I got up and made a huge breakfast of two breakfast sammitches with egg, cheese, and sausage (bonky stick). I also drank about 20 litres of water. I did all this because I wasn't allowed to eat or drink after 7:30 AM.

I went to work as usual. At one point Jessica had me take the garbage to the dumpster up the block and around the corner. This was no ordinary dumpster, though; it was a gigantic mechanical monstrosity with no noticeable openings. I had to call her to have her walk me through how to open it up. Also, in the later afternoon I channeled my Hallmark training and professionally wrapped two mail-order items.

I picked Carrie up for lunch, but of course I couldn't eat anything because it was after 7:30 AM. My blood sugar was consequently crashing and I was getting PLENTY grumpy. We drove to the hospital where I said I had some serious concerns about the procedure (I had done a lot of independent research and discovered a whole bunch of stuff that the doctor hadn't talked to me about). So the nurse got the doctor on the phone and we decided to postpone the surgery until she'd had more time to talk to me about it.

Fine. Good. The nurse gave me some cranberry juice to help with my blood sugar because I'm certain I was obviously in a very bad mood at that point. Then we went home where Carrie made the Mandarin chicken for a late lunch. Then we napped for a couple of hours before Carrie got ready for class, to which I took her around 6:30.

In the evening I set up some Cafepress stuff for Thirsty Robots, did a load of dishes, and worked on Valentine's Day stuff while watching Conan the Barbarian.

Carrie called me to pick her up around 10:30, and so I did. I continued to work on Velentine stuff for a while after we got back, and then I went to bed. Carrie played Tetris DS via WFC for the first time, and said it was very fun. She seemed to have better luck with people not dropping out than I do with Mario Kart DS.

Karaoke in T-Town

Yesterday after Ever After I picked Carrie up for lunch. She had un mal de tête massif, so I helped her make a salad for lunch (I just had a couple o' hot pockets for meself). She drove back to work afterwards (she was feeling better), and I watched an episode of The Avengers and got all drowsy. Then I worked on Bead Factory stuff for a while.

At 4:00 Lisa came over (with her two kids) to talk about the new website she wants me to make for her! Hooray, new client! It went well, and I've got some ideas. The main thing, though, is that I think I'm going to make an e-commerce site out of a WordPress blog. I'm pretty sure it would be (relatively) easy to do by using their template stuff. This will make it
  1. Easy for lisa to update
  2. A completely free shopping cart system (by integrating it with Mal's e-Commerce)

Carrie worked late and then went for a walk with Cat afterwards, so she didn't get home until dinnertime. She made chicken perogies with a really yummy ham-and-gorgonzola sauce. She's a good cooker lady.

There were a couple of episodes of Mythbusters on in the evening. And then after them, instead of going to bed like we normally would, we drove down to the Swiss to join Becka and Carly for a late evening of karaoke. Carrie & I did not join in, but after getting a handful of beers in her belly Carly did. She sang that Journey song about lovin', touchin', and squeezin'. The one that ends with like four minutes of "na na na." Becka's boyfriend also did a rendition of Tom Petty's "Runnin' Down a Dream."

We dropped Carly off at that Silver-something bar on Broadway, where her roomates were (so they could drive her home), and then we went home and went to bed.

It was a nice night out the day before a surgery!

I'm really not looking forward to going under the knife again. Sigh. I won't have to stay in the hospital or anything, but still, I don't particularly enjoy parts of my body being cut. I think that's understandable, right?

...They Pull Me Back In

Yesterday (Tuesday) after work I came home for lunch. Carrie had walked home earlier due to the fact that she would have to go back to work for her split-shift than she usually would. She was very, very sleepy all day long.

At 3:00 she dropped me off at the doctor's and then went to Sonja's, where she and Sonja talked about what kind of jewelry she should bring down. She also picked up a couple of cheques, which is always a good thing!

At the doctor I learned I had a little fistula thingy. I was already going to have to schedule a follow-up appointment to be knocked out and scoped and all that, so they're just gonna take care of the fistula at that time. Problem is, I'm gonna have an open sore on my behind when they're done. I figure that'll be plenty sore/annoying for a while. I hope I'm able to do Fools Play during the weekend! Surgery sucks.

Anyway. I made the Trader Joe's pizzas for din-dins, then took Carrie to the store for her class. In the evening I tried to see if'n I could fineagle Blogger.com in such a way that would turn it into a shopping cart system. I was able to figure some stuff out, but it isn't quite what I'd like it to be, dangit.

Then I watched a new episode of Veronica Mars with one of the more despicable crimes I've ever seen. It was a really good episode, even though it had no Wallace or Mac in it. It did have a good Weevil bit, though!

After VM I went and wrote my review of Pan's Labyrinth. Carrie came home just as I was finishing up, and we went to bed.

New Movie Review: Pan's Labyrinth

I wrote a movie review! Gasp! It's only been almost five months since I wrote the last one (though I only saw a couple of movies in the interim... I really need to get back into the habit of going out to the movies). Anyway, read the review by clicking below:

Reboot

Ever since February started, I've been feeling awfully restless. And I think I've figured out why: I have no focus. I'm not focusing in on any of my projects. See, the summer of 2006 was focused heavily on painting (my whole "Painting of the Week" series). Fall 2006 was focused heavily on getting Thirsty Robots up and running. December was focused on buying a house. January was focused on getting into the groove at my new job at Ever After.

But now that it's February, I feel like I'm kinda just floundering around aimlessly. So yesterday (Monday) I decided to do a soft reboot, figure out what all of my projects are, and stick something up top as my priority project.

Yesterday I was still getting o'er the sick, but with every passing hour I was feeling better and better. I worked from home for the day.

After Carrie came home for lunch and then left again I put on BBC America—they're showing The Avengers, but the final season (the one with Tara King instead of Emma Peel), so I don't have them on DVD. It isn't a bad season at all! Linda Thorson is quite excellent as Tara King. It's just that she's no Diana Rigg as Emma Peel.

(A funny side-story: there's an episode of Brisco County, Jr that features a female, British secret agent named "Emma Steed." Hmmm....)

Anyhoo, I took a nap for the rest of the afternoon. After work Carrie went and worked out, then went shopping at Safeway, so she didn't get home until dinnertime. I cooked up all of the Rib Eye tots with sauteéd onions, sour cream, and cheddar cheese; what we call "Special Hash Browns" in honor of The Parkway.

After dinner Carrie watched three hours of Friends and cleaned up the house. I, in the meantime, attempted a reboot. I sat down at the konpyūtā and tried to think of all the projects that were floating out there. Ones that would (or could) make me money, ones that were purely personal, anything at all I could think of. I made a list, but it still seems a little incomplete, like there's something big that I'm just not thinking of. So I didn't really effectively prioritize them.

There are a couple of very pressing matters that I'll have to attend to over the next couple of days, but then after that I'm afraid I might be floundering again until I get this all settled. We'll see what project shoots to the top once this is all settled.

She'll Be Back Tonight!

Hello! Carrie has been out of town (in Tucson) for this past week. Here's a really quick recap of all what happened while she was gone.

Well, on Sunday (before she left) I had Fools Play practice as per usual, and much of the rest of the day was spent getting her ready to go, including me driving to an ATM at night to make sure she had enough spending moneys.

On Monday she got up at 4:00 AM or something like that. I got up at 5:00 and drove her to the store so she could pickle & tumble some earrings whilst I went and got her some coffee. Then I drove her to the Lareau homestead so she and Viki could go to the airport together (Viki drove there). In the evening I went down to Olympia and ended up hanging out at Tia & Amanda's apartment with them and Tim and Cassie, watching Nacho Libré and Rushmore.

Tuesday afternoon I drove up to Seattle to hang out with Sandy & Mathias. We went out for dinner at an Ethiopian restaurant, "Queen Sheba." I brought my paints up with me as well, so in the evening Sandy & I painted, then we all watched the new episode of Veronica Mars.

Wednesday I did nothing social; I stayed home alone all day and worked and cleaned, and watched Mythbusters, and played the Mega Man X Collection.

While I was up in Seattle on Tuesday, Sandy mentioned that she wanted to see Pan's Labyrinth, which I also wanted to see, so I made plans to see it on Thursday. But Sandy never answered her phone nor checked her messages, so I ended up seeing it with only Amanda. Afterwards I went back to Tia & Amanda's apartment again and cooked everyone there a big spaghetti dinner. After dinner I played some DDR for the first time evar, then drove back home. On the way home I began to feel progressively more and more sick! Oh noes!

But Carrie comes home late tonight, so I won't have to constantly be hanging out with people to distract myself from how lonely I am when she's outta town! Hooray! I hope this cold doesn't last too terribly long...

Of the Month: February '07

Link of the Month:
Whedonesque
Yes, I am a nerd. And as a nerd I tend to like all things that Joss Whedon does. This site is a news aggregate site dedicated entirely to the Jossverse, Joss projects, as well as the careers of almost anybody who was in any way ever associated with any of his TV shows or movies.

DVD of the Month:
The Adventures of Brisco County, Jr
I really liked this show when it was on originally. Now it's starting to show its age a little bit. The budgets were obviously tiny. It has a bit of the A-Team thing when it comes to how often people get shot in proportion to how much people get shot at. It wraps up its main plot about eight episodes before the end of the series. But Bruce Campbell is just so durned entertaining, and the show nevar takes itself too seriously. It's just a good, fun romp.

Game of the Month:
The Advantage: The Advantage
The Advantage is one of those NES cover bands. They're like a soft-rock version of The NESkimos. But some of their covers are surprisingly tight, and so close to the source material that you almost forget you're listening to actual people playing actual instruments! Especially good are their Castlevania covers. They also have an unusual selection of songs, including a handful of "password screen" types of songs. It's worth a listen.
