My
Wish List!
It's that time of year again: Time for you to buy things for me for Christmas!
BUY THINGS FOR ME! I'm shameless!
Game of the Month:
Yoshi's Island DS
I don't even have this game. How can it be my game of the month? All the reviews
say it is just like the original Yoshi's Island, only with some additional elements.
The original Yoshi's Island was my favorite-ever game for the SNES. That's good
enough for me!
Album of the Month:
Very Best of Burl Ives Christmas
If you're a kid, Burl Ives's voice is synonymous with Christmas. This album
collects all of the best of his stuff, including the songs he actually sings
on Rudolph.

This Might Be a Wiki
If you want to know ALL about They Might Be Giants (my favorite band), then
this frighteningly exhaustive website is the place for you.
DVD of the Month:
Nacho Libre
I just can't get over how funny this movie is. I likes it a whole bunches. It
feels like a cross between Napoleon Dynamite and a Wes Anderson movie,
starring Jack Black. Fascinating.
Game of the Month:
Toribash
A fascinating fighting game that has no pre-set movesets. You fight by manipulating
the joints on your ragdoll-style character. Includes options for "dismemberement,"
wherein if you strike an opponents body part with enough force, it'll come right
off! The possibilities are practically endless—I once cut my opponent
completely in half... with my crotch.
Link of the Month:
Snowblood Apple
If you want to know ALL about the fascinating, creepy, unsettling, and graphic
world of Asian Horror Cinema, then Snowblood Apple is the place for you.
DVD of the Month:
Shaun of the Dead
I can't imagine that very many people who regularly read my website have not
seen this film. But since it's October, I get to put horror-related thigs as
my "Of the Months." Shaun is the funniest zombie comedy since Braindead/Dead
Alive.
Album of the Month:
Count Chocula Goes to Hollywood
Continuing with my horror-related choices, you can now enjoy the exploits of
a Dracula, a Mummy, and a Frankenstien as Count Chocula travels to Hollywood
to be on a TeleVision show! The horror! The comedy!
Link of the Month:
Galbadia
Hotel
While certainly not compleat (there are several notable missing things), Galbadia
Hotel is one of the most comprehensive video game music download sites I've
ever seen. The legality of it all is highly questionable, so I suggest you go
there and start grabbing stuff as soon as you can...
DVD of the Month:
Veronica Mars - The Complete 2nd Season
Ahhh (contented sigh). We know who killed Lilly Kane now. But there are 26 more
fan-freakin-tastic episodes of this, the best TV show since Firefly went off
the air. And the 3rd season starts soon on the new CW!
Game of the Month:
Yoshi's Island
This was my favorite video game for ye olde SNES, and now it's been ported to
the GBA, playable on my DS. That last sentence had a lot of acronyms. From what
I can tell, this is over 99% accurate (I've only spotted one and only one thing
that is different, and that was just a special effect thing) and it is still
just absolutely beautiful and a tonne of fun to play. Plus I picked it up for
under ten bucks. Score!
Link of the Month:
MONDO
DADDYKIN
Do you remember a time in the late 60s when it seemed that almost every cartoon
consisted of a group of teenagers who had an animal sidekick and solved mysteries,
and were also in a band? Well, this website sure does, and amazingly it has
managed to collect the albums that these cartoon bands released! Daddykin also
has a large selection of albums from live-action shows that might as well have
been cartoons, like the 60s Batman, and The Banana Splits,
and The Bugaloos. Fascinating listening!
DVD of the Month:
Veronica Mars - Season 1
This was a no-brainer. I watched the heck outta this DVD set since Carrie bought
it halfway through last month. It is my new favorite show. It lives up to all
the hype. Wallace is my favorite character. Just watch the danged thing so I
can talk to you about it!
Game of the Month:
Big Brain Academy
An "educational" game that tests your skills in five cognitive areas:
calculation, identification, analyzation, memorization, and a spatial-relationship
one (I forget what they call it). You are presented with a series of mini-games,
and the better you do the bigger your brain is supposed to be. But where this
game really shines is in the insane competitions that arise when played multi-player.
Whoever solves the problem the quickest gets the most points, but if you get
it wrong you lose the amount of points that you would have won had you been
correct. The first person to reach a pre-determined set of points wins, and
the person who fared worst in any given round gets to choose the mini-game for
the next round. It is probably the most fun I've had doing multi-player DS.

THIS
IS FUN TO MAKE A BLOG ON THE COMPUTER WEBSITE
Lord, but this site is funny. You just have to visit it and read through it
and you'll most likely get some pretty severe giggles. It unfortunately only
updates about once a month (or less), but there is quite a backlog of posts
to amaze and confuse you, so get to it!
DVD/CD of the Month:
Home Movies - Season 4 with Bonus CD
The final season of Home Movies has some of the funniest episodes of
the series, including one guest-starring They Might Be Giants. As a bonus, the
DVD set comes with a CD that has almost all of the songs from the show over
the course of all four seasons (except for the They Might Be Giants songs, of
course). Highlights of the CD include "Don't Put Marbles in Your Nose"
and "Trust Yourself."
Game of the Month:
New Super Mario Bros.
The first Super Mario Bros. game since the rather disappointing Super Mario
World in the early 90s is not disappointing! Similar in feeling to Super Mario
Bros. 3, this is straight-forward Super Mario Bros. style fun.
Link of the Month:
The
Museum of Hoaxes
This is a cool site that collects and analyzes hoaxes and things that might
be hoaxes, as well as things that seem like they're hoaxes but are actually
real. Updated daily with new fakeries.
DVD/CD of the Month:
They Might Be Giants: Venue Songs
I'm killin' two birds with one stone with this one! A couple of years ago TMBG
went on a tour, and for each and every stop on that tour they wrote a new, original
song, writing it the day of and performing it for the first time at the venue.
The CD collects all of the live recordings of these, as well as about a dozen
of them that They went back into the studio and re-recorded. The DVD has music
videos for the studio-recorded venue songs, as well as hilarious interstitials
starring a "Deranged Billionaire."
Game of the Month:
Mega Man X Collection
Following up on their Mega Man Anniversary Collection, Capcom has
collected the first seven Mega Man X games in one place! I only ever played
the first three (I only ever owned the first two for the SNES), so this is quite
a treat for me, especially since the Mega Man series of games (not including
the Battle Network series) is my all-time favorite series of games.

Wish List!
It's that time of year again: Time for you to buy things for me for my birthday!
BUY THINGS FOR ME!
DVD of the Month:
Robert Rodriguez's Mexico Trilogy
If you want to watch a really fun, kickass flick, then you'd be hard pressed
to find anything better than one of the films of Robert Rodriguez's Mexico Trilogy:
El Mariachi, Desperado, and Once Upon a Time in Mexico. And
wouldn't you know it? They've finally all been collected in an insanely reasonably-priced
boxed set.
Album of the Month:
Jimes: A Little Something for Everyone
Jimes is unique sound, for sure. It lies somewhere in between Pleaseeasaur
and Chubby Mummy. In fact, if you made a mix CD with nothing but Jimes, Pleaseeasaur,
and Chubby Mummy on it, you would quickly go insane. I also recommend you download
the Jimes songs from the Whose
Got the Money split EP they put out (the first 12 tracks).
Link of the Month:
Bubblegum Fink
Well, it would seem that Bubblegum Fink decided to start up his website again
after a massive outpouring of disappointment over closing it down. So now it's
my link of the month again.
_tangentbot
The website I originally chose to be my link of the month for March decided
to close down halfway through the month! So I had to replace those sonsofbitches.
I did a random number generator to choose another site from my links page, and
it came back with Tangentbot's site. So go visit Tangentbot and download his
"song a week" creations and enjoy the electronic/IDM fun! And say,
"Boo to that bear!" to the Bubblegum Fink for shutting its ass down.
Bubblegum Fink
A fascinating blog chronicling all things related to bubblegum pop music. The
guy's knowledge is unbelievable, and some of the stuff he finds is absolutely
incredible.
DVD of the Month:
Freaks and Geeks - The Complete Series
I know this set came out quite a while ago, but I didn't get it until this last
Christmas, so it's new to me. Obviously a great show. And one of the only shows
I've ver seen that has a positive portrayal of Dungeons & Dragons.
Game of the Month:
Kirby Canvas Curse
This is the game that that Yoshi game should have been. This is
a side-scrolling platformer that is controlled entirely with the DS stylus.
It's really the first DS game I've played that takes full advantage
of the touch-screen system. Plus, it's a really fun Kirby game. Can't beat that!
Link of the Month:
Jonathan Coulton
This guy writes really, really great music. I like to say that Tenacious D is
to rock as Jonathan Coulton is to alt-folk. Usually very funny, inappropriate
lyrics set to beautiful guitars and heartfelt singing. For the past almost five
months he has been writing one song every week and putting them on his website
for free download. I suggest you get them all! And donate a couple of bucks
if you do, to keep this thing going as long as possible.
DVD of the Month:
The Tick - The Entire Series
This is one of my favorite incarnations of Ben Edlund's infamous creations.
I like it even better than the cartoon, due to the fact that you don't have
to sheild your eyes from crappy animation in order to enjoy the really witty
writing. The cast is all spot-on, especially Patrick Warburton as the big blue
guy, and there are some great guest stars including Armin Shimmerman, Christopher
Lloyd, Dave Foley, and Ron Perlman.
Game of the Month:
Animal Crossing: Wild World
Aargh! So addicting! So fun! And this Animal Crossing kicks so much ass
compared to the first one for the simple reason that you can go over to a friend's
town and run around with them. Plus, with Wi-Fi you can do this from
miles and miles away!
Link of the Month:
Blank Label Comics
I'm not really "into" web comics. But for some reason I find myself
going here every day (except weekends) and reading Wapsi Square, Starslip
Crisis, and Real Life.
DVD of the Month:
Serenity
Perhaps the best movie of 2005? Could be. Certainly one of the best sci-fi movies
in a long long time. My review is here.
Album of the Month:
Gorillaz: Demon Days
For some reason the getting-together of all these different people from
all these different bands has made a really good sound. Demon Days has
got some good groove goin' on.
